The question of italian MS torpedo boats

Postby karlik on 07 May 2012 07:35

Hi!
Help me please!
In 1943 in Italy built next types of MTB german origin:
MS 3-rd series slipways numbers 1515-1532
MS 4-rd series slipways numbers 1533-1542
MS type S-38 slipways numbers 1461-1466, 1543-1545

I am interested in the following questions:
1) Which of these boats were laid down, and which are only planed?
2) Which of these boats were called MS81-86?
3) Which of these boats completed by the Germans as S621-628?

Thanks in advance!

Before the Armistice of 8 Sept. 1943 only 3 MS of the 3rd series were laid down in the CRDA shipyards in Monfalcone. After the Armistice the Germans ordered their completion and laid down another five, all of the 3rd series and in the same shipyards. Only five entered in service in the Kriegsmarine between May and August 1944: S 621, S 623, S 626, S 627 and S 628. I don't know their exact slipways number.
No unit of the 4th series or of the "S 26" (not "S 38") series were ever laid down. The units of the "S 26" series were the ones that, once completed, should have been called MS 81-86.

Thank you very much!
One more question, in Erich Groner book "Die deutschen kriegsschiffe 1815-1945" have such a drawing

Is it possible to determine what series this MTB, 2 or 3?
Maybe I can find anywhere else drawings of MS 3rd series?
In the book of Erminio Bagnasco "I MAS e le motosiluranti italiane" unfortunately they do not.
Best regards!
