For Amm. Genta, in 1910 he commanded a destroyer as Capitano di Corvetta, by 1925 he was Controammiraglio and commander of the Great Magazine at Trieste. All I could find.
The enemy had superiority in numbers, his tanks were more heavily armoured, they had larger calibre guns with nearly twice the effective range of ours, and their telescopes were superior. 5 RTR 19/11/41

Hi Matteus,

I got this on one of them, Morenco.

Marenco, Ammiraglio di Squadra Alberto (15.12.1889-27.03.1958):
Conte di Moriondo
1936: Deputy Inspector of Naval Construction
1936-1938: Commander of "Quarto" Naval Group
1938-1940: Commander, 6. Division
1940-1941: Commander, 4. Division
1941-1943: Naval Commander, Western Greece
1943-1945: In reserve
1945: Member of Special Commission of Inquiry

Regarding Eugenio Genta I have been unable to find more, though he seems to have been a Rear-Admiral by 1922/1923, so it is puzzling that he should still be in service by WWII, and he doesn't look as old as one should suspect of someone who has been an admiral for nearly 20 years. Yet there seems only to be 1 admiral by that name.
Kind Regards

Hi and thanks you two.

I saw this yesterday evening but was too lazy to post, however i had the same idea as Steen: such an early promotion to flag rank and still so fresh in 1940?!

kind regards,
Matteus

Well Genta seems to have made quite the career then, just 12 years or less from Lt. Commander to Rear Admiral! No idea what the typical age of a Capitano di Corvetta was in 1910, but let's say it was 30, so that would make him about 60 in 1940. The picture would go along with that. What I find more surprising is that there is zero info on him, even in Italian.

bit more on Genta that I have been able to collect.

According to La Stampa then he died in September 1956 as Ammiraglio di Squadra. The Almanacco Italiano for 1919 has him as Director-General of the Directorate-General of the Merchant Navy as well as head of the inspectorate of maritime service within the Ministry of Arms & Transport. In 1926 he was appointed Royal Commissioner for the port of Fiume
