Tank insignia/mascot ID

Does anyone recognise this cartoonish type of insignia/mascot please?
[Is it an insignia/mascot of a unit (if so, of which unit) or just a mascot of this particular tank?]

The photo was taken in Yugoslavia, summer 1943 (source BA).

ITALIAN ARMORED AND MOTORIZED DIVISIONS DIDNT HAVE "OFFICIAL" UNIT INSIGNIA BEYONG THE BATTALION, COMPANY AND SQUADRON MARKINGS. THE ITALIAN AIR FORCE HOWEVER LIBERALLY DECORATED THIER AIRCRAFT WITH INSIGNIA THAT MIGHT REPRESENT A WHOLE SQUADRON OR GROUP OR JUST A SINGLE AIRCRAFT. THIS IS MOST LIKELY THE WORK OF THE CREW ON A SINGLE VEHICLE.

I am told that this L6 belonged to 2nd battalion 31st Tank Regiment on the Dalmatian Coast. The actual insignia is a cartoon lion.

Ivan, I merely asked a friend who is very keen on the Italians and he recognised it from a book he owned, I didn't ask what the name of the book was.
