Can anyone help me identify my grandfathers rank and significance in the army? i just found this old picture of him after he passed away and am very curious to know. He never spoke much about the war, but I hear him use the term Marshal once, but I cant find much about it anywhere online. Thank you.

Members of Chemical btg . This unit has not proper officials, only nco and privates. Maresciallo in italian means or Field Marshall or senior nco. In the photo ranks are not visibile. The Marescialli have from 1 to 3 stips on shcoulders staps.

Thank you very much, I know that he was stationed in North Africa and did work with making artillery munitions. Do you know of any place where i can get more information about the chemical btg?

He's the colonel Ugo Montemurro, heroic commander of the 8th Bersaglieri Regiment and winner at El Mechili.
