Halt Order Only For Army Group A?

#1

Post by panzerhan » 18 Oct 2014, 08:08

Today, I happened to hear from a friend that in the campaign in the west in 1940, while the German forces were advancing toward Dunkirk, the famous "Halt Order" were only given to Army Group A which were on the west of the corridor but not to the Army Group B advancing from the east.

Is this true?

The halt order started with Guderians superior, Von Rundstedt who wanted to preserve the tanks for the second part of the campaign. Hitler then confirmed the order later.

There is a lot of theories why Hitler give this order. Here's the list:
- He simply want the Panzers to wait for the infantry.
- He want to allow the Luftwafee to do the job done.
- He don't want to hurt the British very much and want to make them as an ally instead ( Hitler regard the British as of the same race, also he view that only America and Japan will take any advantage of the destruction of British military power as Japan and America both have a rather strong navy while the German not but the British, yes)

Hitler did not give the halt order, he upheld it. Guderian appealed to Hitler because he did not want to obey it and for Hitler for what ever reasons decided to agree with Von Rundstedt.

He wanted to save his panzers but it was a mistake and let the BEF escape
