Did Germans record in what buildings in eastern front did they stationed their HQ's?

I wanted to ask if did Germans keep records or maps of the places where they stationed their HQ's? I know that during the war there was a HQ or something of importance set up in my grandparents house. It seems that they stayed there since they invaded eastern Latvia and they left when they were retreating. Is there any possible way of finding out who they were in more detail?

There are some records for some front line active units. As Latvia was behind front line for 2-3 years, we are probably looking for rear type unit, which may not be easy to find. Smaller the house, smaller unit, more difficult search.
