Hello,

time to add something new to this thread. Found the following colourized picture of a Marinevorhelferin and her boyfriend at http://www.sammlermarkt-nord.net/shop/s ... ts_id=4527.

Around the left lapel of her jacket this female auxiliary wears a black ribbbon as a sign of mourning. Such black ribbons (or less frequently black brassards) can be found on a good deal of photos from the second half of WWII when German losses started to increase dramatically. There seems to have been no official regulations on them (at least nothing is mentioned in the volumes of Schlicht & Angolia or B.L. Davis) but they appear to have been tolerated by superiors in general.

Best regards
Torsten

Hello,

some new info. The Führerinnenschule für Marinehelferinnen was founded in Flensburg in March 1943. The school was commanded by:
Korvettenkapitän (M.A.) d.R. Otto Ludwig (March 1943 - November 1943)
Kapitänleutnant (M.A). d.R. Franz Moldenhauer (November 1943 - May 1945)
See Beckh (2005, p.407) and http://www.axishistory.com/index.php?id=11089

According to Kraft (2010, p.98) the school was located in the Spanuth-Haus in Flensburg and already had been disbanded when Kraft moved in in early May 1945 with his office, the Marinenachweisstelle. The address today is Mühlenstraße 19 in Flensburg. The building houses a kindergarten now after being a library of the Protestant church for many decades.

Hello,

the couple we already know from here viewtopic.php?p=1178325#p1178325 was offered again on Ebay recently.

source: http://www.ebay.de
auction no.: 380347985982
vendor: euque
date: Jun 19, 2011 18:19:39 hrs CEST

Because dog-ears and frame dirt are identical I think they're actually the same copy. The question is, is this one here an original or a computer printout of the earlier? There was a spree of those recently on Ebay Germany where somebody had taken some very nice Helferinnen pics from the internet (including AHF) and produced new copies of them. Buyers beware when something is offered you already know!

After a very close inspection of both images I think this here is actually the original offered again.

Best regards
Torsten

Unfortuneately I don't own the Kriegsmarine volume of Angolia & Schlicht so could anyone of you identify the patch please? It looks a bit like a sextant to me but that's more or less a wild guess. All suggestions welcome.

Hello Torsten,

Nice photo!

According to Brian L. Davis' Badges and Insignia of the Third Reich 1933-1945, it's the specialty patch for a Entfernungsmesser mit Fla. E. Messausbildung (see below). Davis translates that as "Range Taker," but I'll leave the German to you. :D

Best,

Strange what you find on this site, further strange how things work out. I was a Fire Control Technician (Missile) in the US Navy from 1962 to 1966 and the sleeve insignia for my rating was so very similar to the one this young lady is wearing. It looks like this:
