Occupied territory nurse

Postby MissKadri on 16 Nov 2012 09:27

Hello!

As woman enlisted as a nurse on occupied territory did it automatically meant that she was part of the army? Or was there also an option to be civilian nurse and not part of the Deutsches Rotes Kreuz?
Did being a member in Deutsches Rotes Kreuz meant being in the army?

Could it even been technically possible for a nurse to join Armed Forces?

Hello,

Not as a nurse. Of course as Nachrichtenhelferin etc...
For example a Kriegslazarett (1000 beds) had 50 nurses from the country it was stationed in. These were payed by the army but not part of the armed forces and in foreign countries often not part of the red cross either.
