SS-Helferin Awards question

#1

Post by artydrvr » 10 Aug 2015, 23:37

there is a question that has been raised regarding a member of the SS-Helferin being allowed to wear the DRL sports badge. Was that award ever authorized for wear by SS-Helferin, and if so, what circumstances allowed for SS-Helferin to wear it?

My understanding is that after 1921, the German public at large were eligible to receive the DRA/DRL Reichssportabzeichung..."men and women between the ages of 18 and 32 who passed five parts of the National Test within a twelve month period...levels for qualification were less for women than men." (Source: "For Führer and Fatherland - Political & Civil Awards of the Third Reich" by John R. Angolia). Prior to 1921, only men were eligible.

The SA & SS (not to mention other Party organizations) were allowed to wear this badge on their uniforms and since I've seen several photos of SS-Helferin wearing it on their uniforms, it would seem that it was acceptable.
