Final "hint", to get this quiz back on track: The answer appears on page 8 of the following book:

R. James Bender/Hugh Page Taylor, Uniforms, Organization and History of the Waffen-SS, Volume 3.

Not being an SS aficiando, I do not have those books...I was going to take a crack at the answer--or at least part of it--and say Theodor Eike. I know there is a cuff title with his name. But now that I find the division is Prinz Eugan, I am totally stumped. I guess it will have to be answered by an SS expert.

Whoa, stop the press! I think I just inadvertantly discovered something while looking for something else.
The answer is Gottlob Berger as to the man responsible...but I still don't know the woman, but his son in law was SS-Sturmbannführer Karl Leib. It was just luck that I discovered that much--if it's right.

Hi, SW.

Correct on Berger! News to me about SS-Stubaf. Karl Leib being his son-in-law - thanks for that info. I guess that was the husband of his other daughter, whose name I don't have (she was born 28.06.1926, so if the marriage began during the Third Reich she was quite a young bride). The husband of Krista Berger was Andreas Schmidt (born 1912 / died in Soviet captivity at Vorkuta in 1948), the Volksgruppenführer (leader of the ethnic German minority) in Romania.

Over to you.

Sorry for the delay....so here is an easy one.

Claus v. Stauffenberg (of 20 July fame) had twin older brothers; Berthold and Alex. Both were of course arrested after the bomb plot and Berthold was executed. Alex's wife--though briefly questioned--was released and allowed to continue her life uninterrupted even though her husband was sent to a concentration camp.

Not only was she a Stauffenberg (by marriage) but was also ethnically Jewish! And "designated as racially impure and unfit".

What did she do to have retained her freedom in spite of both of these things?

So Siegfried Wilhelm, if you're satisfied with the answer please feel free to leave the next quiz free to create for AHF members. My time nowadays is unfortunately very limited.

Quizzical regards,

Hi Marcus,

Hope your well! The one second from the right reminds me of Wallis Simpson Duchess of Windsor. (a real stab in the dark!)

Not correct. A hint is that they are all from different countries and that it is a war time meeting.
