Hello Michael,

Your brooch is probably the standard service brooch that Marinehelferinnen received at the completion of their training, since those measure about 30 mm.

Take a look at the photo of one of the standard service brooches in my collection, on the first page of the thread below. It too measures just over 30mm (3cm):
http://forum.axishistory.com/viewtopic.php?t=96468

The Helferin in the photo you've posted, on the other hand, appears to be wearing a Leader's brooch. These had a wider, decorated border than the standard Marinehelferin service brooches, like the one worn by the KM Helferin in the photo Torsten posted (about halfway down page 4) in this thread:
http://forum.axishistory.com/viewtopic.php?t=66200

Strange, though, because neither the tunic collar nor cap of the lady in the picture you posted appear to be piped in the twisted yellow and navy blue twisted cord, which would normally accompany the Leader's brooch for Führerin ranks and above.

Hope this helps.

Best,
~Vikki

Hello Michael,

The photo I've posted isn't great for detail, since I made it on a scanner. But it should give you an idea of the relative sizes of the Marinehelferin and Führerin brooches.

By the way, at a closer look at the picture you posted (and on a better computer), the upper collar of the woman in the picture does appear to be piped. I'd be curious to see a closeup of her collar.

Best,
~Vikki
