What were "nachrichten helferin" main duties ?

Hello all,

I'm still searching details of my city through the occupation (Lille, Northern France) and I came across a story related to a Nachrichten Helferin with odd details, I don't understand :

Truppenteil: F.Nachr.Kdtr.24
Erkennungsmarke: -11236-H.S.F.Nach.Helf.

I presume the "Truppenteil" means that she was attached to the Kommandantur 24 (Kdtr.24) and the Erkennungsmarke, 11236 her army number or something like that ?

Am I right ? But from these information, how am I supposed to know what were her main duties during the time she served in Lille ?

Thanks a lot guys,

Greg

Hello Greg,

"Truppenteil" does mean unit, in this case Feldnachrichtenkommandantur 24. The Erkennungsmarke was her identity tag ("dog tag"), with her identity number and the abbreviation for Heeresschule für Nachrichten Helferinnen. The number would have been recorded in her identity documents, and in the unit's roster. Here are a couple of examples:

Her duties as Nachrichten Helferin would have been operation of communications equipment: telephones, radios, teletype.
