I was apologizing for my own off-topic post - I know how easy it is to get carried away
Looking forward to your G4 information.

The Mercedes here was the last one delivered to the Reich Chancellery Garage in 1939/40. It is today sitting at the Ottawa War Museum. It is the only one in the fleet with the straight bumper.Alpenfestung wrote: ↑14 Aug 2011, 18:46Matt,
Sorry about the late reply, I just realized that the picture I posted earlier is also in Blaine Taylor's book "Hitler's Chariots Vol. 3: Volkswagen - ..". The quality is sligtly better, and the last 5 numbers on the license plate are ...48564. According to Mr. Taylor, this was the car given to Hitler for his 50th birthday - there is another picture of it in the book, without the headlight covers, added horns(?) and Notek light, but the license plate is clearly visible - 1A-148564 - it probably is the same car.

This is the vw38 prototype number 38/31 Type 15A manufactured at the end of 1938 and given to Hitler for his 50th birthday on April 20, 1939 at the same time as a Mercedes-Benz "Typ Grosser Mercedes" w150 (770). The registrations of these two cars are part of the series of numbers reserved for vehicles assigned to Hitler's use (IA-148 = IA for Berlin). Hitler's cars attached to Berchtesgaden were registered IIB-215 (II-B = Oberbayern). Of the 88 W150 chassis produced, Hitler used ten of them. New Offener Tourenwagen (IA-148 461, 148 764, 148 768, 148 485, 148 655, 148 697, IIB-215 289 and 215 290). A Pullman Limousine (IA-148 696). These are cars used in public. Today the known survivors are 148461 (private collection USA), 148 768 (private collection Russia), 148 697 (Canadian War Museum Ottawa Canada) 148 696 (private collector Philadelphia, USA)
