Hello,

here's another photo of Gertrud Scholtz-Klink, taken in 1937 or 1938 during a tea party on Lindwerder island in Berlin's river Havel. On the extreme left we find Erika Semmler http://forum.axishistory.com/viewtopic. ... 7#p1460937 from the Reichsfrauenführung. The third from right is perhaps her colleague Dr. Else Vorwerck http://forum.axishistory.com/viewtopic. ... &p=1873014 though the face appears to be rounder than that of the 1933 photo.

Hello,

here's another one of Gertrud Scholtz-Klink. This one shows her visiting a trade fair in Strasbourg (Alsace) on Sept. 10th, 1941 where she met with leaders of the Alsatian NS-Frauenschaft. Or at least the caption says so, actually Alsatians - though their language is a German dialect - showed little enthusiasm for National Socialism. It's more likely these are actually members from the Gaufrauenschaftsleitung of Gau Baden-Elsass. The history of this Gau began in 1940 after Alsace had been attached to the neighbouring region of Baden, its counterpart west of the Rhine. The administrative seat of Gau Baden-Elsass was in Strasbourg, or Straßburg as we say in German. Most members of the Gaufrauenschaft were from Baden of course.

There's one interesting object in the photo held by the the women in front of Scholtz-Klink and so slighty out of focus. This is obviously a wooden carnival mask depitcing a witch or an old woman. In the Southwest of Germany, Alsace and parts of Switzerland carnival is celebrated in a way different from carnival in the Rhineland. Such traditional masks often used for generations are a typical element of the Swabian or Alemannic carnival.

In the weeks after the 'Anschluss' personalities visited the Nazi party leadership of the "Old Empire" Linz. Reich Women's Leader Gertrud Scholtz-Klink held on 3 April 1938 speech that should make the Linzers the role of women in the Nazi state clearly.

Wonderful candid photos that capture a bit of the personality of the Reichsfrauenführerin: I wonder what Reichsleiter Dr. Alfred Rosenberg said to her that generated that expression on her face?! The photos of her with Reichsminister Dr. Wilhelm Frick are very good, and especially the one of the two of them sitting at an event, with Gauleiter of Baden Robert Wagner to Frick's left. And this last one above greeting (or being greeted by) Reichsleiter Dr. Ley -- and that appears to be Reichsleiter Philipp Bouhler at the far right of the photo. Excellent photos.

Br. James:

That is not Bouhler in the photo above, just someone who is similar.

Thanks for that correction, Mark. He certainly does look like Bouhler; wonder who he was...?
