Hello, very interesting thread, I hope you don't mind me resurrecting it. I recently watched a historical drama on Stauffenberg and the plot to kill hitler, and at the end, they read a poem written by Nina von Stauffenberg to Claus after he was executed,

Does anyone happen have the text to the poem that they could post here? Or help me find it on the internet? I have been searching google for it, but am unable to find it. I happened to be on an airplane watching the historical drama, right after watching Valkyrie with Tom Cruise, and broke into tears when I heard the poem that Nina von Stauffenberg wrote, and would love to have a copy of it,

Thanks,

reso

Hello, I am new to this forum but you seem to know your stuff. I am trying to find out the bio. info. on Stauffenberg's driver-I believe his name is corp. Karl Schweizer? My wife is German, and I wrote a book ("Once I Had A Comrade: Karl Roth and the combat hist. of the 36th Pz rgt. 1939-45") about her father during the war. Karl Roth died in the early 70's and I did not get to interview him, but did get much info. from my German mother-in-law. She told us a story, a rumor really, that Karl had assisted Staufenberg's driver secure civilian clothes and escape by boat to Sweden? Could this be even remotely true? Any light on this subject would be appreciated! Rick and Jutta

Hello Rick and Jutta, welcome to the forum!

I've moved your similar question on this topic in the Announcements section to a thread of its own in the Axis Biographical Reseach section at http://forum.axishistory.com/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=154364 where it's more likely to get answers than either here in the Women's Section or in the Announcements section.

Best,

Gedicht von Nina Von Stauffenberg
geschrieben im KZ-Ravensbrück

Du bist bei mir
Wenn auch Dein Leib verging
Und immer ist's als ob
Dein Arm mich noch umfing.
Dein Auge strahlt mir zu
Im Wachen und im Traum,
Dein Mund neigt sich zu mir
Dein Flüstern schwingt im Raum:
„Geliebtes Kind! Sei stark!
Sei Erbe mir!
Wo du auch immer bist -
Ich bin bei dir!"

Poem by Nina Von Stauffenberg
written in the concentration camp Ravensbrück

Even if you're with me
Your body's always passed,
and as if
your arm is still enveloped me.
Your eye shines to me
in waking and dream,
your mouth tends to swing me
your whisper in the room:
"Beloved child! Be strong!
Let me heritage!
Where have you ever –
I'm with you!

Very interesting thread of an unsung hero, Nina von Stauffenberg, Thank you. I have a question concerning another female von Stauffenberg: In Christopher Ailsby's Combat Medals of the Third Reich, he mentions not once, but three times, a Frau Grafin von Stauffenberg as one of two women awarded the Combined Pilots and Observers Badge in Gold with Diamonds, Female Class (the other woman being Flugkapitan Hanna Reitsch). Elsewhere, in Countdown to Valkyrie by Nigel Jones, on page 280, Berthold von Stauffenberg, Nina and Klaus's eldest child, is quoted " . . . and also grieved for my shot-down aviator aunt, . . . ". Anybody have any info on who this woman was and what she did?? Thanks. . . Sorry, moments after posting this, I answered my own question; she sounds as fascinating as the rest of her family. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Melitta_Sc ... auffenberg

More info about Claus's sister-in-law, Melitta Schiller-Schenk Grafin von Stauffenberg (9 January 1903 — 8 April 1945):
