Re: Female Auxiliary Photographs
Hello,
here are some more photos of the mysterious work smocks that were identified as items of the very early Luftwaffe Flugmeldedienst (aircraft reporting service) (See http://forum.axishistory.com/viewtopic. ... &start=216). More details of these work smocks become evident, particularly the twisted piping of the collars.
The pictures seem to be scanned from a wartime publication. Anyone knows this period publication?

Re: Female Auxiliary Photographs
Hello,
here's another photo of what I think are Flakhelferinnen. Two helfs with a large cold-blood horse that seems to be slightly amused about the little people running around it. Perhaps the draught horse of someone bringing supplies to the flak position or employed to relocate the searchlights. As petrol was very scarce towards the end of the war transportation in the hinterland generally had to rely on horses.
The uniforms of the helfs are also noteworthy. What they are wearing are actually uniforms of the Flakhelfer boys with a Luftwaffe eagle replacing the Hitler Youth sign on the cap. Looks like an improvised solution. While the Helferin on the right has the typical Luftwaffe cloth eagle, the one on the left appears to be using an eagle metal pin much smaller.
Best regards
Torsten

Re: Female Auxiliary Photographs
I am always in awe, Torsten, of the sheer bulk of coldbloods -- draft horses. I often ride very large horses, and funny, it's not so noticeable when you're on them, as it is when you're beside them, grooming them or trying to get a saddle on them. Your photo shows well how much more massive coldbloods are than even large warmbloods. These women don't look like small women, as I am, but compare the near Helferin's hand to the size of the horse's nose, or the top of her head against the horse's withers.....massive, as I said.Heimatschuss wrote:Two helfs with a large cold-blood horse that seems to be slightly amused about the little people running around it.
Lovely picture, of two of my favorite subjects.

Re: Female Auxiliary Photographs
Since Torsten has us on the topic of Luftwaffe and Flugmeldedienst Helferinnen...
Luftschutz Warndienst Helferin and Luftwaffe Helferin. The LSW Helferin's uniform differs from her friend's Luftwaffe uniform only in the use of the Luftschutz eagle, rather than the Luftwaffe one, on her tunic and cap.
(From a photo album in my collection of Luftwaffe Helferinnen stationed in Paris--other photos from the album posted at http://forum.axishistory.com/viewtopic. ... 8#p1328098.)

And from the same album, a Luftwaffe Haupthelferin wearing the second style Flugmeldedienst pin, indicating her service in the civilian Aircraft Reporting Service before it was taken under the Luftwaffe. The single band of Tresse on her lower sleeve marks her as being in charge of the duty position.
