Thanks! I wasn't aware of the 1941 change in collar patch pattern.

Hello FastFreddy,

many thanks for your positive feedback. Feedback, even more when it's positive, is always an encouragement for all us contributors. Here's another one from me quite spectacular. This 1943 shot shows a Nachrichtenhelferinnen-Führerin on the Pic du Jer, high above Lourdes, the famous pilgrimage town on southern France.

I didn't realise SS Helfrinnen had the Totenkopf on their caps. Is this usual?

Hello heimwehr,

in all likelihood the photo has been retouched post-war. I was fooled by it too when I was new to collecting female stuff. For some discussion of the pic see here viewtopic.php?p=1582641#p1582641.

I am sorry for not writing in such a long time but I was very busy trying to find more informationon my mother. I an article about women stationed in Minsk during the same time my mother was there I contact Dr. Killian from the Frankfurt University because she knows those women and asked her to show the pictures of my mother to those women hoping one would recognize her. I have not received an answer yet but, as you all aware, hope dies last. One other of my cousins verified that my mother had a liaison with a "very high person" in Minsk and the he was my father. It seems that the whole family knew about it except me. So I am still searching feeling like I am missing part of my life and only being half a person. Here is picture of my mother at the train station of Minsk on 13 April 1944
Minsk.jpg
I found out that even during those horrible days trains would still take soldiers from the front home on leave. The question is which unit was she working with in Minsk and where did she go after she left Minsk. I have a million questions and no answers.

I hope you all will have a nice weekend.

Heidi

Hello Heidi,

let's hope Dr. Killius can provide you with a helpful contact. But don't expect too much. In summer 1944 about 2400 German women were working in Minsk for various organizations (Mühlenberg, 2011, p.298). So not anyone can have known anybody else.

Have you already tried Dr. Franka Maubach from the University of Göttingen? (http://www.generationengeschichte.uni-g ... aubach.php) She wrote her Ph.D. thesis about Wehrmachtshelferinnen and did interviews with a number of them. Perhaps she has some contacts that are useful in your case.

Good morning Thorsten and all

thank you for the information provided. I will contact Mrs. Maubach to see if there is anything or anyone she knows that could provide a little piece to the puzzle. The big problem is that more and more of the women involved pass away and less and less information can be provided. A lot of them also do not wish to talk about those times which is understandable. I am also corresponding with a student from Mogilew and will ask him how much information is available on units stationed in or around Minsk. He is very interested in WWII history and I will provide him the Axis History link. He doesn't speak English or German but his translation program helps him out. To get back to the subject: I will contact Dr. Killius to see if and what information (if any) she has for me and also will contact Mrs. Maudach. Whatever I find out, be it good or bad, I will share with you. People have asked me if I am afraid of what I may find out. I can earnestly tell you that, to some effect, I am. But to find out about my father, no matter how bad it may be, is still better than being half a person and wondering what may have been if he had been around.

Have a wonderful Sunday.
Heidi
