Just a quick question, do you sell and buy regularly on german ebay..? Whats your impression of genuine appearance of items including photos. Especially given that the crackly edged photo paper is available to print old pictures onto these days. To me it seemed there was an awful lot of photos that looked realy new.

Hello Matt,
the only items I buy via Ebay is computer stuff and modern books occasionally, I've never tried to sell anything there so far. With all the threads about forgeries of historical items here and on Feldgrau I doubt that I will ever buy something like that via Ebay. I'm absolutely no expert on the various stamps, paper types, production technologies etc. one should have studied long before making the first bid. Even should I embark onto collecting once, I would never pay anything before having inspected the object personally. The cheapest fraud still is to copy a digital image somewhere and use it to illustrate your own auction.
For example currently the Helferin photo Francy Ritter posted in this thread on page 3 is for sale on US Ebay and I'm really sceptical that it turned up on the market so quickly again.
For me personally a photo or scan (in good quality if possible) is absoluetly sufficient. That does contain any kind of information I'm interested in without requiring me to pay lots of money or even store the stuff.
Hope this clarifies your questions a bit

Heeres Helferin sleeve insignia. Note color and weave of attached pieces of service blouse. The one showing the reverse with stitches also has a period snap sewn just below and to the side of the patch (for temporary attachment of an armband?), but I'm showing the reverse because it illustrates the different blouse material well.
Johanna, hope this is something further useful for your impression.

I agree, Matt. From your angle, but also from a very different one.Matt Gibbs wrote:Whoops and there was me thinking of bidding and not many people had seen it, thanks for alerting all the other possible competiton

This section won't turn into an advertising board for EBay. Experienced collectors know the caveats of shopping there; inexperienced "shoppers" do not. Women's items are highly visible, and an always sought-after field, of collecting---and equally frequently misrepresented.
As this is a research area of the Forum, posters should not post an item for sale, or links to an item for sale, unless they can support the item with research and/or documentation, make an intelligent comment on it---or at least ask an intelligent question about it. Otherwise, they can speak to Marcus about paying their fee and posting it in the "For Sale" area.
Despite the recent interest in the subject, this is not a sales list.

*grin* I see your point Vikki
That can certainly be one big problem with ebay as well as sales sites and postal auctions etc.
Well, I guess you will have to PM me if you decide to sell your collection then Yeah ok, not likely. Hope you find some nice things at yr local events.
Best wishes

Here is my one and only helerinne item It belonged to my good friend Edgar's wife's aunt. Both Edgar(KM U-boot vet) and Helga(Luft. Helferinne) served during WW2. I also have the little hand knitted wool pouch her aunt made to hold her id disc. Her aunt was an instructor at the school and from what Edgar and Helga have told me there was only 2 of these schools in Germany

Yes I agree its a great item, of course I appreciate you were only pointing it out to us.
I was just making the point that since you're also so interested and say you'll be getting back into the bidding, you're making more competition for yourself - never mind others
Are you one of those so called sensible bidders who set a limit and thats it, no way will you go any higher, or r u one of those who end up throwing all that off in the last few minutes
just checking...lol.
