I am hopeful that one of you can provide insight as to the voyage of the Vorovsky to Guangzhou (Canton) in 1924.
1.) from where did she sail?
2.) when did it sail
3.) details as to cargo
4.) arrived Guangzhou on October 6/7/8? (What calender/time zone).
5.) when was political decision to send weapons made?
6.) when did on the ground gatherings take place?
7.) any other information on weapon shipments to southern (ist United Front) is welcomed.
Thank you all.

Route:
12th July 1924 Arkhangelsk
24th July 1924 Plymouth
08th August 1924 Naples
Port Said
Aden
08th September 1924 Colombo
19th September 1924 Singapore
Hong Kong
07th October 1924 Canton
20th November 1924 Vladivostok

It seems that 8000 rifles, 9,000,000 rounds of ammunition, guns and shells were offloaded in Canton.
Crew was taken to the military camp (400km from Canton) by the special train a day after arrival.

Coincidentally? Vorovsky was in Canton when rebellion started on the 10th of October against Sun Yat-Sen forces. It was crushed by 16th of October.

My questions:
Were the arms Soviet or English? Did English officials know about a cargo?
What's the chance of the small ship (border patrol ship - not a transport one) full of weapons visiting several English controlled ports (and one Italian) and officials did not notice anything?

Many thanks Greg:
My understanding presently is: Jiang made no secret of arrival of Vorovsky, had it avoid British managed customs and unloaded in broad daylight as political statement against British but also domestic rivals. 10/10/1924 not a rebellion but Zhou Enlai lead demonstrations of 50,000 --parades, speeches anti British and anti Business--intent worker education, participation. Guangzhou Merchants security fired killed 20 and injured 100. This set Sun's followers including Jiang to suppress on October 15th. No question in my mind that British intelligence tracked and had decent data even before she reached China. Didn't know she was a patrol ship--can you share details?
Greg can you track other Russian voyages? ie. Ho Chi Minh arrives Guangzhou on Nov.11th or 12th from Vladivostok, Sun Yatsen departs Guangzhou on 13th reaches Shanghai on 17th November and Kobe, Japan on18th. Looking at dates I am speculating that same Soviet Russian ship is the carrier. Did Ho stop in Shanghai during voyage? What is name of ship.
Many, many thanks.

Translation from Russian:

Border patrol ship II rank "Воровский" (until 1916 "Lizistrata", until May 9, 1924 "Yaroslavna").
Built in 1901 at a shipyard in England (Dumbarton) on request of an American millionaire Gordon Bennett, the owner of New York Herald Tribune; named Lizistrata. Type of vessel - single mast ocean promenade 5 deck yacht.
In 1916 the ship was purchased by the Tsarist government and transformed into a Aviso, renamed Yaroslavna and was part of the Fleet of the Arctic Ocean based in the port of Arkhangelsk. Two 102mm guns and anti-submarine mine armament were installed.
From August 2, 1918 to February 19, 1920 Yaroslavna was in the hands of the interventionists and Whites in Arkhangelsk.
After the civil war and the expulsion of the invaders ship was under control of the OGPU.
From July 12 to November 20, 1924 a patrol boat of the 2nd rank "Воровский" made the first Soviet times far jump from Arkhangelsk to Vladivostok.

Not too small after all: displacement of 3315 tons, length of 91.7 meters, width of 12.2 meters.

No, sorry no more info. Only that Ho Chi Minh's first stop was Japan on his journey from Vladivostok. Not sure about Shanghai.
