In a different version of Global Warning, the Tropical Clime of the Area was torrid heat and torrential rains across desolate terrain

After a number of "incidents" around the "insignificant mounds of sand" near Nomonhan Manchukuo between Manchukuo and Mongolian Border patrols
, The Imperial Japanese Army ordered a quick strike be made by IJA TROOPS to take the Kawamata Bridge to cutoff and defeat the Mongolian Peoples Republic Army.(MPRA)
May 14 intial Imperial Orders are received.
The First IJA Group to make way was scratch Infantry formed from service troops armed with only their rifles and anything else commandeered including tankettes type 94 undergoing field trials.
This draconian measure was considered necessary in view of the Imperial Order.

About this same time, The MPRA was reinforced by an element of a Soviet Tank Bridgae (11th)

The Bridge across the Halha/Khalkhin Gol River running N-S in the disputed area was at the junction of the Halha Holston River, the village of Nomonhan to the east and area of dunes to the North, the disputed area contined south past the junction, that would be the site of heavy fighting

May 28, 1939, conducting a forced march, the initial Japanese group became separated and disorganized, approaching the disputed area and Bridge from the North

The Japanese Commander pressed on with those remaining determined to reach the bridge, just south of the dunes.
Reports indicated that no resistance should be expected.

Observing the approaching Japanese column entering the disputed area, the batter Commander of Soviet SU-12 Self Propelled guns mounted on Trucks opened fire.

At first shocked, the Japanese noticed the fire appeared to be coming from the high ground across the River.
The IJA Commander divided his small force into two companies:
Group 1 would eliminate the flanking fire , doubling back across the river
Group 2 would continue with the original orders

The heavy volume of fire now being received obliged Group 2 to dig in on the blistering sands until group two completed their mission.

Such rash decisions represented a breakdown of Military Discipline that resulted in Japanese Forces committed in helter skelter manner where each group was defeated in turn, this same result would effect the type 89 IJA Infantry Support tanks that were hastily committed on their own without Infantry Support
