MajGen's Tunic
NY Marine, Sir,
I'm surprised there's only two sets of loops.....apparently he worn only his 1st Cl. Iron Cross 1914 & the 1939 Clasp....I would have expected loops for the Wound Badge....was the Wound Badge "on the tunic" and I can't see the loops or pinned directly on? Stumme would have worn all three (and could have worn his 1st Cl. Baltic Cross if he chose).
No matter, I'm convinced of it's originality and provenance....and that it is Stumme's Afrika tunic......
Privileged to have played a small roll in it's recognition and "story".......Grand Dad didn't bring home any other souvenirs, did he? Maybe you have his Knight's Cross kicking around somewhere.....(finding the name was lucky, enough......)

The wife and I are actually going to her dad's house this weekend. You've sparked the family's interest. My father-in-law is going to pull out items that his father brought to his house over the years. We'll need your assistance in identifying the items. We'll post more soon, depending on what we find.

John, Attached are some pitures of other items I have in my posession. The binocuars were stolen years ago, only the case survives. It is missing a buckel on one side . Can replacements be found? The Mauser and holster were my dad's brother in-law and he got them in Italy. The pictures are of a distant cousin who served somewhere in Africa. Not sure where.

Nice pistol, thou not a luger......the shoulder holster may be a postwar addition (Commercial ones were sometimes used...but I doubt this one was.....)
The pictures certianly are cherished personal views.....
The Binocular Case is JAPANESE WW2......how your relative "acquired it" is unknown.....but it's definately a WW 2 Japanese field Glasses (Binoc.) Case. You'd never find the correct buckle- and most "Jap" stuff (respectfully meant) is battlefield damaged.....best to leave it as is.....probably how it was brought home.
Keep digging and check any other relatives from that time period to see if they have anything......this stuff is "nice" but more the typical "GI pickup" type stuff.....but I guess you shouldn't complain too much (w/the tunic and all......)
Best regards,
John G.

Here are some additional uniform items that were at my wife's father's house. They belonged to the soldier that brought back Gen'l Stumme's tunic. The Silver Star was awarded to him for actions at St. Vith.
