Austro-Hungarian Cap Cockade - IFJ ???

#1

Post by algomedic » 18 Apr 2010, 03:27

Hi,

Here is a photo I've posted previously and had many great people help identify some of the equipment uniform dates. I have finally scanned the image as close as I can to try and make out the cockade on the cap. To me, in looking at some examples online, it looks to me like it is IFJ. Can anyone confirm this or does it look like it could be something else? I know the quality isn't too good, but this is a 1917 postcard.

Thanks in advance.

algomedic,
Your correct, except the letters are "F.J.I." which stands for Franz Josef 1st. Theres usually one for sale in the WW1 Austro/Hungarian section of E-bay if you want to see what they look like....(I'm unable to post the link or a photo....)

Actually, you are correct on both counts....it indeed say IFJ which was the badge for Hungarian troops. FJI badges were worn bay Austrian troops and both FJI and IFJ stood for Franz Josef I. I think the photo would date from around 1916.
