Helmets-to chnage or not to change?

Postby hisrtylover on 18 Feb 2003 01:43

Should the Whermacht have changed its helmet design from the 1914 look to the 1939 look? The old german helmet had spikes on the side and a longer plate in the back of the head. However, it did not have the frontal protection that the new helmet did. So, even thouh it was a new Whermacht, should the helmet design change?

the lugs were for a machine gunner face shield (to protect face from ejecting cartridge casings). However, the shield was never fully developed and distributed.

Of course the model 1935 (not 1939, not such thing. just M35, M40, and M42 for WWII era) was superior, or Hitler would have continued to use the M-18 in a transitional stage.
