Robert Ley's Bag

Postby AlifRafikKhan on 13 May 2012 05:07

I always curious what is the little bag that carried by Dr. Ley. At least on two occasion he brings it with him: Legion Condor ceremony and launching of battleship Tirpitz. Was this thing common, or were other other officials wears this also?

Hi, Alif,

This is a special holster for Walther PPK. Worn with the ceremonial dress of the Party Leaders. Not unique. :)

Best wishes
Ruslan

Who is the Reichsleiter sitting behind Ley in the first photo wearing the sunglasses and Blood Order, is that Bormann?

Thank you guys, although I couldn't stop thinking: why they're taking pistol in ceremonial occasion like these? It's not in the front line and they're not even soldier. If it is for security reason, of course the top notch like Göring, Himmler and Goebbels more than qualified for this thing, but I never saw pictures showing them with pistol holster...

Ali, is not about their poliitical or military profile or security, is about the Uniforms regulations, check the NSDAP Organization book, you can see the pistol holster and other stuffs of the party leaders.

Yes, it's the same as the SS officers and NCOs carrying swords ... they were intended for dress or ceremonial occasions as trimmings.

The holster with brocade hanger was intended for parade dress, while the leather version was stipulated for other uniform situations. But the particular holster that Ley's was wearing was a prototype of the actual version available for purchase by PLs above the rank of Kreisleiter. Notice that Ley's holster does not have the metal Hoheitsabzeichen eagle that is seen on the holster worn by v. Epp. Ley's holster is a modification of the older style PL holster with an PL eagle impressed into the holster flap.
