Black M36

#1

Post by Angus1235 » 19 Nov 2013, 18:09

This link leads to a $25,000 uniform of an ss officer at a staff training facility.
At first I thought 'meh' but then noticed the M36 style pockets, and my curiousity has been aroused.

Giggity.

What sort of uniform is this?
the only rtime I have seen similar was with a $50 'gestapo officer' costume, made from an east german pattern in black.

At first I thought It might just be an M36 that looked dark due to the lighting or quality of photo, but the armband and the cuff-title say otherwise.

I saw an option for a uniform identical to this once as well, as well as what appeared to be an M32 with a closed-collar

Some might be fakes, but others (such as this) are definately real and it's a shame you can't buy replicas :(

That tunic is weird ... no collar tabs, bottom pockets, silver-piped collar but other ranks cap chin strap. If I remember correctly the wearing of the Star of David in the Reich wasn't until 1941 so the black service dress tunic and the star don't really fit together.

The description given to that image online is "An SS officer speaks to a Jew in Lodz ghetto."

Hi Marcus, I think it's just another mis-labelled holocaust photo ... the SS man also wears the cross-strap which was dropped by regulations in 1939.

It would definitely not be the first or last such case, but that was the description given on the sites where I found saw it with a description.

These appear to wear the same kind of uniform:

About the star:
On November 7, 1939, Lodz was incorporated into the Third Reich and the Nazi's changed its name to Litzmannstadt ("Litzmann's city") - named after a German general who died while attempting to conquer Lodz in World War I.
The next several months were marked by daily round-ups of Jews for forced labor as well as random beatings and killings on the streets. It was easy to distinguish between Pole and Jew because on November 16, 1939 the Nazi's had ordered Jews to wear an armband on their right arm. The armband was the precursor to the yellow Star of David badge which was soon to follow on December 12, 1939.

I saw this exact style of tunic for sale in an online auction! I don't have the link unfortunately but it was a black ss uniform withM36 style Cargo-pockets on the skirt. Could've been the same one.

Also, did the M32 actually button up? I know it isn't a field tunic but being almost identical to the M34 WSS/SSVD tunic (which apparently did button up at the collar) I figured the feature must be available, but haven't ever seen an example of it

http://www.sofmilitary.co.uk/black-ss-w ... oduct,4812

well I found a SOF repro/stock item which I am asusming is some sortof polic jacket with German buttons? I thought this as it doesn't have french cuffs or pleated pocket flaps (they're triangular instead)
Not to mention the blue lining and that it just doesn't look like a German uniform at all. I have seen east german soldiers in black looking uniforms (b&w photos) so it COULD be that but I suspect they were actually KVP uniforms that looked darker.

anyway what is this? (is what I am trying to get at)
My other guess is it is a Norwegian (?) ceremonial uniform, but not so sure

Those uniforms are pre- or early WWII Allgemeine-SS.
Photos from Litzmannstadt ghetto are of 112th SS-Standarte.
