Re: SS or Panzer?
Moving this thread as well. PF, please note that " Axis Uniforms, Headgear & Insignia" is the section to post questions related to uniform identification.

Re: SS or Panzer?
He's a self-propelled artillery crew member, not necessarily the radio operator ... he wears the earphones and throat mic to give instructions. The person saying he was SS obviously a) mistook the panzertruppe collar skulls for SS and b) needs to stick to commenting on quirky British footwear or whatever the idiot's interests are listed as.

Re: SS or Panzer?
If he was SS then there'd be no Breast-eagle and collar-patches would be 'square' rather than 'rectangular' as well as having 'SS' runes and whatever rank he was also.
Red piping indicates Artillery/Panzer unit.
Generally the cockade will automatically bring you to assume it's WH, Heer or Kriegsmarine. SS didn't have a Cockade, instead it was the glorious Totenkoph.
Anyways, in-short: Herr/WH panzer/Artillery unit soldier. Not SS in any way- what in god's name were you thinking?
