The patch is a Polizei sleeve eagle.

Looks as though it's a Polizei division/unit patch.

Judging by the uniform, and amount of buttons, you're looking at early Nazi-era to pre-early war when this was taken.

Along the lines of this:

Sorry guys - guess I should have added a little background. Photo from 1942. As far as I know, policeman is from Polizeibatalion Litzmannstadt.
Hope it helps.

Answers the overall question then, that's patch/badge for Police.

Would've thought by 1942 he'd have been issued with a M40 or M37 tunic for his services to the army/Police.

It's a normal Police sleeve eagle, worn on all Police uniforms (after institution), prewar usually has town or district name above eagle, after 1940/41 this was discontinued... Not anything to do with "Division" or particular unit (except for being one of the Police branches/districts).... Uniform is not early nazi era, it was worn through out the war by regular Polizei thru out the "3rd Reich" & occupied areas,.... the thin piping on the sleeve is unusual... doesn't appear to be normal "Der Spreiss" braid....but don't know what else it would be...

Polizei Batt'l Litzmannstadt would have been normal "Civil" Police units (not Polizei Division) and thus would have worn appropriate Police Duty uniforms...which is what this uniform is...1942 seem perfectly correct to me.

Connor, "we" appreciate your imput, but don't give "general rambling answers that are not on point.. or that are "incorrect". I encourage you to contribute but please stay on point, be sure of your facts, and avoid using reproduction items for illustrative purposes (unless that's all that's available) as some won't know they are reproductions or reanctor materials...

No problem John.

I'm generally on this at my lunch-break at work, so often answers are rushed, or checking before i go off to bed e.t.c.

Definitely will continue to help the community, and definitely need to stay on task and use appropriate details.

Nevertheless, you learn from your mistakes and innacuracies.

Cheers.
