Help with Uniform Identification
Help with Uniform Identification
I found this picture tucked away in my great-grandmother's things a few months ago and I'm trying to find out some information about the circumstances around it. When my grandparents immigrated to America after the war they passed on an incredibly edited version of our family history to my father and uncle. All we know for sure is that before and during the war my family lived in Budapest where they owned a farm. They were Swabian but had lived in Hungary since at least 1832 and after the war they were deported to West Germany.
My grandparents claimed that my grandfather only fought in the war because he was drafted, but he had the choice between the German or Hungarian Army and he chose the Hungarian Army.
So who are these guys? This picture was taken on my great-grandmother's farm in Soroksár, a district of Budapest. She's the woman wearing black in the middle, and she's the only family member (that we know of) present. The back of the picture says (in German) "Memories from Soroksár and mom."

Re: Help with Uniform Identification
Everyone in "uniform" is German Luftwaffe (air force)..... The guys wearing "shirts" are harder to tell....some are definately German but some could be Hungarian A.F., hard to tell as some mixing occurred, and only visible means of telling are the shoulder boards...which can't be seen clearly on some in the photo...
Looks like everyone (in Uniform) are Luftwaffe "Administrative officials", but not clear enough to be sure...
Hope this helps alittle.

Re: Help with Uniform Identification
Thank you! That's more than I could be sure of before I posted. It makes sense, since my family's farm was only a few miles from the airport. You definitely helped me find a place to start. Thanks again.

Re: Help with Uniform Identification
The guy on the left standing and 4th from the right standing don't have the standard 'gull' collar tabs and I would speculate they could be medical specialists ... their tab backing material is dark ... possibly dark blue ? It looks like the staff of a LW unit.

Medics would still have gulls. Beamte/Verwaltung types would have the "pips" on their tabs.
I believe John called it correctly.

Re: Help with Uniform Identification
My mistake, I thought they had the triangles as you show but on blue ... thanks for the correction.

Re: Help with Uniform Identification
Thanks guys, I have another question about this picture. I played with the coloring and lighting until I finally got two of the four patches to come through clearly. The other two might be hopeless, but I'm going to try to scan the picture and a higher resolution to see if that helps. Until then, these are the two I have...
Could this first guy be Erwin-Peter Diekwisch? It seems that he was on the Eastern Front from what I'm reading.

Re: Help with Uniform Identification
Simple answer is NO... not the same guy, different color collar tabs.... etc. (those wouldn't change in 99.9% of cases!)

The RKTs eyes are much farther apart than the other guys.
