Help with this Polizei Coat

#1

Post by edelweiss » 22 Aug 2014, 19:40

I have bought a long time ago this Polizei mantel, in the pockets where the SS sleeve eagle, the rank collar tab and a blank collar tab like the one used by the SD and the sleeve diamond of the SD. U still can see where the tabs, sleeve eagle and diamond where fitted.

My question is: is this an original SicherheidsDienst coat? Because i want to sell it. And if this is not an original SD coat, is it an original Polizei coat that i can sell?

Thanks in advance

Personally I always think that the more obvious the stitching where 'stripped' insignia came from the less I'm inclined to believe it .... to me this was a Polizei mantel and I would always consider the value to be not a penny more than the sum of the parts.

Sorry that's not what you wanted to hear ...

Cheers, Ian.

Overcoat is certainly Polizei issue.... shoulder boards appear to have dark brown cording.... (SD would be BLACK). The only way to know would be if you have the removed SS/SD insignia.... (DOUBLE CHECK the shoulder board braiding color....)

Mid-war SD uniform color was changed to "Police Toxic Green".... so overcoats could have come from Polizei stores circa 1944....but you'd need more than thread outlines to convince anyone it was actually "SD"..... I agree with IAN, basically a spoiled Schutzpolizei overcoat in it's present state... unless the insignia was still in the pocket?

The eagle is the very late type found by the sheet at the Dachau SS-BW ... it turns up on a great many stripped and rebadged items. The SD raute and the tabs (especially the sack cloth backing 'buckram') leave me very cold I'm afraid.

I would be extremely cautious about the whole item other than it's Polizei origins.

Please show a clear shot of the rank litzen on the rank tab.

The eagle is a cheap and very common original .... a clear, straight on shot of the litzen is required, those are not good enough.

Ok, so the eagle is original, its something :)
The eagle is something i'm going to keep from the coat.
And for the clear pics: maybe this evening or thursday evening, my gf is going to visit then and she got a digital camera.

Ian
I have (hopefully) clear pictures of the tab, and had taken pictures of the shoulderboards.

Can't tell from the pictures whether the interior cording on the shoulder boards is black or brown.... should be black. If so, then the boards are probably o.k., too. The "rank" also matches properly the collar tabs.... (rank of SS/SD Scharfuhrer 42-45).

I'd give the tabs a "fighting chance" but would wait for IAN's opinion, he has a keen eye (and wide data base!) and I'd wait for his opinion.

Ok.
Hope he visits this topic again :)

And the board cording is black, just double checked it.
