18th Volunteer SS Division "Horst Wessel"
Re: SS Vehicle Symbol Identification
Thanks Toten39. I should have stated this photo was taken in 1941 during the early part of Operation Barbarossa, so the emblem can't be from the 18th Volunteer SS Division "Horst Wessel."
Re: SS Vehicle Symbol Identification
Since the beginning of "Operation Barbarossa" 1st Cavalry Regiment crossed the border of the USSR and advancing with the 87th Infantry Division. However, June 29, 1941, the regiment was sent to Suwalki, and then to the landfill Haydelager, where, apparently, was already in the 2nd Regiment. July 21, both regiments were sent to Baranovichi and are subject to the higher SS and Police Fuehrer "Central Russia". August 2, both regiments were consolidated into the SS Cavalry Brigade, and the 4th for the first time entered the fray. In mid-August, the brigade fought the Soviet cavalry in Pripyat. After this, the brigade became involved in anti-partisan operations in Polesie. In September of the brigade participated in a major counter-insurgency operation near Mozyr. In October 1941, the gang were transferred by rail to the area Nevel - Great Luke. Until December the team was in that area, acting against the guerrillas, and then was sent to the area of Rzhev - Toropets. Here SS cavalry carrying security service, and later participated in the battles at the front

Hello,
The Number plates and the type of sword shown belonged to 1 SS-Infantry Brigade and not the SS-Kavallerie Brigade. The sword emblem for the latter was a different design.
