My apologies for this extremely poor 1934 photo (from NARA) below, but I'd like to know what the black-bordered armband is on what appears to be a Standartenführer (SA or SS?). It looks like the word "Polizei" is within the writing & I've seen armbands on SA & SS uniforms in the early 1930's for individuals temporarily helping the Police, but I've never seen a black-bordered one before.
I have considered that it might be one of these "police-helper" armbands placed over an SS-armband (with just the black borders on the SS armband still showing), but the quality of the photo is so poor, I really can't tell. Any opinions, please.

Re: Unknown Armband
Definately "Polizei" something, but not enough to tell any more than that... Could be just slipped on, edge stripes could be from either the Polz. or "SS" armbands... many "duty" bands could have edge stripes and I can't see enough to tell from the photo..
Many "office jobs", special assignments, temp. duty jobs required odd titled armbands...but unusual to see in a period photo in wear.
Hard to be sure from the photo if SA/SS, but the belt buckle is definately SS style Officers, the SA rarely wore a "round/oval offz. style buckle". Like the "Leadership School" Arrow patch and Golden Party Pin, he also has another badge but can't be sure what.

Looking at the rear of the armband I believe the stripe we see is from the SS armband ... there is a slight crease in the SS one which is different from the armband above.

Thank you, Ian. Here is a better view of the armband. In this view, it does look as though a separate armband might have been placed over an SS armband, but I'm still note sure...it is still hard to tell.
