Pictured is a "Nord Hamburg" patch, which was attached to the left short sleeve of a Jungmädchen's uniform blouse.
I know nothing of this sort of insignia, and any education would be very much appreciated.
Were the same insignia used for both boys and girls? Were there different insignia for summer vs. winter?
How common are these insignia?

Thank you.

Michael,
Introduced 1.Jan. 1933, worn by HJ, BDM, DJ (Gold/blk. males : white/blk. females), many versions and special variations but most are made like yours... many different degrees of scarcity depending where and what it is, the standard "Obergebiet/Gebiet" type are "fairly common" from the US/French/British occupied areas... Eastern Zone/General Gov., etc. are harder to find.... and many special ones are pretty rare and pricey. There are "old fighter" versions (member prior 1 Jan. 1933) with 5mm Gold (M)/Silver (F) tresse sewn along bottom edge.

HJ/BDM/JM is good stuff collectorwise... your's is a nice example. "Nord" is the Obergebiet; "Hamburg" is the Gebiet in your case.

No winter/summer versions... most are made in this style but occasionally found hand-embroidered or in wire bullion thread. There is even a "USA" version worn by American Bund Hitler Youth.

John G., Thank you very much for your rapid and detailed reply.
This particular patch comes from my mother. She never had a chance to wear the patch. She had just turned ten years of age and was anxious to begin attending meeting at the end of the Summer. Unfortunately, the bombing of Hamburg led to the cancellation of meetings and my mother soon traveled east to Kattowitz where her father had been assigned.
Many thanks again. Are there any reference books that you recommend on this subject?
