Helmet identifacation

#1

Post by Kalle80 » 14 Jan 2017, 18:17

Hello!
I need help identify the branch of the soldier wearing this helmet. He has no insignia on the uniform. It looks like a big rain/great coat. Motorcykle google on the helmet. The only marking is this piece of helmet decal. On the backside of the photo it is written " 1941 Russland".
Thank you for helping me!

I think he wears the left SS helmet decal.
Possibly it's a SS soldier of LAH.

Why just LAH?
Because, could be a reconnaissance motorcyclist of this unit ( they are shown in several pictures during 1941 invasion ).

Sorry I missmatched the photos. Sorry. This photo is from 1940, march I think. I have several photos from the same soldier. another one is from 0ctober 1938 but I cant read everthing on the backside. It is a hard handwriting.
I also know that the soldier came from Berlin, and died somewere around Stalingrad.... And I was told he was part of some panzargrenadier regiment but I dont know how true it is.

I post another photo.

I do not know much about the waffen ss and I am thankfull for your help!

M35 DD helmets would have been standard issue for all the early "German" SS Divisions... and all would have Motorcycle user... dispatch riders, messengers, etc., as well as well as reconn. units.

SS-Division (motorized) "Viking" was in the Caucasus during the city fighting for Stalingrad.

I think they are from an early SS-VT unit.
An eagle on sleeve it's visible, in the man of the second row of the picture.
Their tunics apparently wear the collars closed, and the old steel helmets 1916 are painted in black.

Ok thanks!
Didnt the early SS-VT had their garrison in Berlin? Then it would fit in.
