Nazi Armband Authentication

#1

Post by Calamity » 11 Feb 2017, 14:18

Hi all,

I just came across a Nazi armband from my grandfather's collection. It was passed down to me; although, with how extensive his collection was and knowing that some of his pieces were in fact replicas, I was wondering if I could get some second opinions on this specific piece. From my understanding, it was a piece that he had collected from his time in Italy. He volunteered in 1943 with the Canadian forces and was the gunner in the M4 Sherman Firefly.

I think it's an authentic NSDAP armband.
Early models in cotton, later was made in wool, yours seems cotton.

Thank you! I went ahead and did a little more research and think you're right on. Such aspects of the two piece construction, stitching, fabric, and colour are all right on. It doesn't have a new feel either, so between everything, chances are it's an authentic. I just remember seeing a printed SS armband beside it so it raised concern.

I do not like the SS armband .... IMHO it is just way too sloppy.

Agree with rlimike's assessment.. However, there were so called *homemade* items done up during the era. just like what we do on a Saturday afternoon making something in our woodshop,, I like the way that all 100%of seams are hand sewn,
but as Mr.Mike says not a genuine TR authorized armband.
