Hitler's Hat

#1

Post by Knight-Templar » 05 Jun 2003, 18:59

Hi guys!!
I wonder if this is right for third reich topic, if not forgive me.
My question is simple (and I think it's a bit silly... :) ), as you see in the picture (and others as well..) Hitler always wore Wehrmacht Hat (or Heer Hat), why?? And didn't he wear SS hat? He liked SS better than Heer right.... Maybe because he used to be a German Army (volunteer in WW1)?
Thanks

Hitler was "Oberbefehlshaber der Wehrmacht". He was never a member of the SS.

Under the early rules would he have even qualified?

   Would Himmler dare to say no ???

Well, of course, he could had a honoary SS-rank like Martin Bormann, Franz Xaver Schwarz and many Gauleiters..

And the rules was hard for the soldiers (Waffen-SS), but not so hard for people in Allgemeine-SS. Look at Heydrich, not a ideal

If you look carefully it is not a Heer eagle it is the standard Party eagle, and the sleave eagle is not SS it is also the standard party eagle.

You must remember the party eagle was the number one eagle in the entire set.

His Wartime visor cap was not a Heer or Wehrmacht visor. It was in fact a variation of his late style Party Visor. The only difference being that the top part was a variation of Green. And not Wehrmacht green either. It was a cap specially made for him by his Chief Adjutant Julius Schaub to denote his new position as Commander in Chief but also as Party Leader. There were two visors manufactured. One that he wore for formal occasions and one without a cap spring as shown here. The formal visor was stell plate somewhat. On July 20th 1944 for example you see him wear both caps on the same day. The crush style after the bomb exploeds and then he wears the formal visor when Mussolini arrives. The Sleeve eagle is in fact the late Style Party Eagle as well.
