Barracks Locker- need info and pics?

#1

Post by hohenstaufeninthehood » 21 Sep 2003, 18:44

I just purchased an original luftwaffe officers locker from 2 buddiies of mine and I need some pics and info about it so I can fix it up, and add the correct shelves and rungs inside it, And i need to figure out if it has been repainted, so I need to know what color these were.
These seem to be in a lot of original pictures taken in barracks

The SS set up a subsiduary company ... D.A.W. Deutsches Ausrüstungs Werke manufacturing such items. Based in Lublin, Lipowa St. and other sites in the KL system.

How is your wall locker marked?
I have one of the smaller size for the Heer - no shelves on the left side. It was never painted.
Here is a photo of the markings on the top back of it. - can't find my other photos at present.

Strange thing about the colour photo, the second one from the top, the locker must belong to a one legged man, on the bottom shelf there are only five boots, where is the sixth one, oh I get it, he is probably wearing it when he took the photo.

Suire - it was made in Sep 38 - 9. 1938.
The Eagle over H U is the mark of the Army supply/eqpt issue service. Can't rmemeber what the German words are other than Heer U? You will find it on towels u. blankets among other things

try a copy of the rieberts german infantry manuals- it will show a barracks locker with instructions as to where everything (gear) goes.

i recently picked up 2 barracks lockers(one single and one double) the double is compartmented for 2 different persons and is the same size as the bigger WM locker except divided in half for 2 persons use. The single is basically half the size of the WM locker. .-i am not sure if they are hj,daf/bdm/ or what. the construction is very similar to the wm or ss locker pictured on one of the responses to your inquirey except they are set up as 2 individual lockers. i am looking for original interior locker hardware for these 2 lockers. I had to replace the back on one of these lockers as the plywood was really bad. The other locker has a stencilled date of 1936 on it but no other markings.

if you are looking for an original style lock for your locker try bunker miitaria as they have some for sale.

paint colour on lockers- the single locker referred to above appeared to be painted originally a feld grau colour once i got about 5 different coats of post war piant off of it. the the double locker appeared to be painted a dunkelgelb colour originally. i also have a wm barracks locker like the one pictured on one of the posts. it seems to have been stained a brown colur and has not been repainted or screwed with paint wise.

i would be interested to learn what the single lockers i have were used by or issued to?? anyone out there have any information or pics of the single locker configuration lockers??

thanks

mike
