The cap with the red piping? It's been awhile but I think he had an artillery officers service dress cap on.

He's wearing the uniform of an Artillerie Oberst (Colonel).

Adolf Hitler, being played by actor Michael Sheard. I noticed the missing hat cockade also.

Apparently the costume designer was using pics of "ol' scramble brains" from prior to 1937, when the reichskokarden was added to his visor cap.
The story takes place in 1938. 8O

I think it would be possible to pick the whole film to peices with the anacronisms throughout, such as MP40's being used, wartime awards, etc.

There were other points that lead me to believe the film was not entirely accurate, such as the 1200 year old knight. They obviously didn't do enough research.

A entertaining film though.

Amen to that... Another example is the Afrikakorps' symbol on a truck in 1938. Uniform-wise, the film is a total fantasy anyway - check out the Wehrmacht soldiers with Swastika armbands, a female SS auxiliary with collar patches, Vogel's totally imaginary "desert" uniform etc. etc.

What? You're saying he was not authentic?!?

Puh-lease!!! That pile of......tosh is riddled with more mistakes than a spacecraft built by Neanderthals. Was there really a DAK in 1938?!? Wearing NSDAP armbands! Where is the country Iskanderan anyway? Elsa Schneider wearing an Einheitsfeldmütze, and addressing the SS-colonel as "Herr Oberst". To name but a few.

Yeah, so Spielberg mangled a few details....Indy's encounter with Adolf during a night time rally in Berlin was very cool cinema!

Agreed. The film is like a comic book in motion, which I believe is the intention.
