Major Othmar Freiherr von Stotzingen

The activities of the German officer von Stotzingen, who led in May 1916 a secret Mission, which passed through the
Hedjaz is relative known. Can anybody provide Information about his other activities during the war? There are some
rumors he was involved afterwards in fights on the Sinai.

Thanks in advance

activities during the war? There are some rumors he was involved afterwards in fights on the Sinai.

The German Journalist Erich Helmensdorfer wrote 1972 after a review of von Stotzingen´s memories

Von Stotzingen arrived after many confrontations and attacks by Bedouins
again Damascus on the 30th June 1916. Afterwards he was assumed under
Colonel Kress von Kressenstein whose target is the attack on the Suez Canal.

These lines are an indication that von Stotzingen was involved in the second Turkish-German attack
on the Suez Canal in July / August 2016. But up to this moment I didn´t find his name in any erection.

(Here is a short overlook about the mission where von Stotzingen was involved before: )

Salamualaikum Tosun,

Many thanks for your information even though without result.
I have to look in other areas, because I suspect that von
Stotzingen
didn´t gone on pension afterwards.

Cheers Holger

Holger,

what is clear from the link you gave above is that the article mistakenly states that Major Freiherr v. Stotzingen was on the staff of 27. Division. This is untrue; his brother Major Konrad Freiherr v. Stotzingen was that officer.

Othmar Freiherr v. Stotzingen (15 April 1867 - 2 June 1923) was at mobilization a Rittmeister der Reserve (25.8.07) in the Regiment Garde du Corps. He was originally a career cavalry officer, retiring on 18 November 1907 as a Rittmeister in the 2. Garde-Dragoner-Regiment.

He was promoted to char. Major on 18 April 1915 as the Leader of the 1. Garde-Landwehr-Eskadron.

Glenn

Dear Glenn,

let me thank you for the very interesting detail information. Great news!
There is very little information on Freiherr Othmar von Stotzingen before and after his Mission in 1916
and you are absolutely right; there are some misinformation in the link.

The lower photo shows Freiherr Othmar von Stotzingen in a German cavalry uniform before the war.
I am not a specialist, but if I am not mistaken, this was an Ulanen-, and not a Dragoner uniform!?
(Maybe someone can confirm this or has other information?)

Holger,

wonderful photo but with all due respect to the Landesarchiv, that is NOT Othmar Frhr. v. Stotzingen. This is a photograph of Rittmeister Karl Correll of Ulanen-Regiment Nr. 19 (1863-1912). The photograph is misidentified!

Rittmeister Correll is wearing the Knight's Cross 2nd Class of the Order of the Zähringer Lion with Oakleaves and a Knight' Cross of the Monaco Order of Saint Charles.

Othmar Frhr. von Stotzingen did serve in Ulanen-Regiment Nr. 19 from 1 October 1886 until 18 August 1896 but retired on that date and entered the Prussian Army on 2 October 1896. Frhr. von Stotzingen never had any decorations whilst serving in UR 19 and in any case his subsequent awards were totally different.

Dear Glenn

Sorry for my late reply and also many thanks for your really detailed information.

It seems to be you are a really expert for this subject and you have a great knowledge
about the officers. Maybe you have any references about Freiherr Othmar von Stotzingen
before and after his secret Mission and covert operation in spring 1916 in the Ottoman Hedjaz?

Dear Glenn,
I am from Germany. My mother is the grandchild from Karl Correll. The foto shows not Karl Correll. This is his brother. I know actually not the first name but I ask my mother next week. It seems to be an error of the Landesarchiv. If you are interestet on a Foto with Karl Correll in the background I can make a scan

Holgar,

Mate, did I read that right that his brother was with the 27th Div.

Sorry was that the Ottoman 27th Div in Palestine or the German 27th Div on the Western Front?

Cheers
