Re: Full German Officers Name in Ottoman Army..
Mate,
Peter mentioned this officer?
Claus von Anderten(1856-1916) is said to have been the highest ranking German killed in action with the Turks,March 1916.Said to have been a Major-General but I don't know if this was his German rank.An artillery commander
What unit and where was he killed
Any ideas?
S.B

Re: Full German Officers Name in Ottoman Army..
Hi Steve,
Andreas has the right guy. Claus v. Anderton retired from the Prussian Army as a Major on 15 February 1910. He had been attached to the Württemberg Field Artillery Regiment Nr. 29 and entered Ottoman service as a Lieutenant-Colonel and commander of an artillery instructional regiment. However, he returned to Prussian service before the war and assumed command of Field Artillery Regiment Nr.9 in Itzehohe on 18 February 1913. He was promoted to his final Prussian rank of Oberst on 22 March 1914 and was killed as a brigade commander in France in 1916.
Regards
Glenn

Re: Full German Officers Name in Ottoman Army..
Hello, i'm searching some info about a German officer in the Ottoman Army.
I think the surname should be Petzel or Petzl and the name Karl or some similar.
I have a photo and it seems to me the uniform is the ottoman one and i think i can see the gallipoli star and the ribbon of turkish war 1915.
What do you think about?

Re: Full German Officers Name in Ottoman Army..
He is wearing Ottoman Turkish uniform. Petzl sounds Austrian. He is german and must be Petzel He is not an artillery officer but infantrist. He is not a veteran of Gallipoli Battles although he is decoretade with Gallipoli star, the Turkish War Medal. He is not an adjutand or aide to a german or Turkish commander. because he dont have adjutants ribbons. He might be from 4th Army at Sina Palestine Front, or 3rd Army at caucasus.

Mates,
Do you have any details on Maj later LtCol Tiller.
I have he commanded the 79th Regt during the Gaza battles but returned to Germany due to illness around May 1917.
After his return to Palestine he took over command of the 46th Div Aug 1918.
Any other bio details you have would be of interest.
Cheers
