Full German Officers Name in Ottoman Army..
Re: Full German Officers Name in Ottoman Army..
Here must be GenMj Karl Ehrke ( 1860 -- 19??) according to Lexikon der Deutscheen Generale. He was listed in the initial post of this thread -- and pardon me for not knowing Turkish -- as a GenMj and was a staff officer related to munition??
We see him with Turkish Half Moon and an artillerie Offz helmut, after the war in early 30's, with Char als Oberst Siegfried Cäesar. Cäesar appeared in Kabisch -- listed as Lehrer an der Artilllerie Schule
Cheers

Major Rudolf Schierholz
Major Rudolf Schierholz
Rudolf Schierholz became a soldier approx. in 1895 in the Saxon army. He later served in the 108th Saxon Infantry Regiment (Sächsischen Infanterie-Regiment) in the rank of a Major.
In March 1914 he went to Constantinople as part of the German Military Mission. He became an instructor in an Ottoman training center for members of the general staff.
With the outbreak of the war he became responsible for the coast protection of the 3rd Ottoman division. Later, in the rank of an Ottoman Lieutenant Colonel, he was commanding the 9th infantry regiment in the Dardanelles.
After 1916 he was transferred to the Palestine theater. Commanding a regiment in Ma'an (today Jordan), he was responsible for the protection of the Hedjaz railway against Arab/Bedouin insurgents.
On December 8, 1917, he died in Ma'an because of dysentery (Ruhr) and was buried in Ma'an in a stone tomb.
A memorial stone was errected in his hometown of Roda (Stadtroda) in 1918.
After the conquest by the Allied forces and Arab insurgents, his tomb was partly vandalised.
Due to insufficient funds, it took the German government until 1931, after the world crisis, to establish a war cemetary for the fallen Germans in Palestine. Tombs were searched and brought to the central war cemetary in Nazareth. The tomb of Schierholz was still existent, though damaged, while many others could not be found. When his tomb was opened, the workers got petrified as they found a hand grenade between the bones of his legs.
His remains were transferred in 1932 to the central German war cemetary in Nazareth.

Re: Full German Officers Name in Ottoman Army..
Steve,
I doubt very much if the Gentleman in question was ever connected with the 51st Division since it was commissioned in Baghdad on 14.11.14 to become part of the Tigris Group on 03.07.17 and was de-commissioned by 26.10.18 at "al Fatkhah", about fourty miles north of Tikrit.
The 9th Regiment on the other hand, was absconded to the 3rd Division until the inception of the 1st Expeditionary Force on 29.12.15 commanded by Kress von Kressenstein. When this unit was dissolved on 29.03.17 in Gazzah; the Regiment reverted back to its old Division until 12.10 18 when this division was also de-commissioned in Nablous. Reduced to a company level by then; the remaining German contingent was sent to the 146th Autonomous Regiment in operations throughout Central and Northern Israel.
The 146th Regiment had a long history and a most varied campaign geography as they started their commission on __.11.16 in Istanbul when absconded to the 46th Division. First sent to Southern Macedonia to fight the British and the French entrenched in Thessaloniki until 27.03.17; they were then deployed in Romania with the 2nd Bulgarian Army. Having returned to Istanbul by __.06.17 where the regiment was re-staffed with German Artillery and Machine Gun contingents; they were sent to Palestine to be included in the 8th Army formation, also commanded by Kress von Kressenstein. Re-commissioned as an Autonomous Regiment and almost fully manned by German Staff during the Month of February, 1918; they were de-commissioned on 04.11.18 at Adana Station when they departed for Istanbul where they were to embark on Koroleva Olga; a impounded R.O.P.i T. (i.e. Russkago Obshestvo Parokhodstva i Torgovli) Vessel, for their return trip home.
I hope I was able to shed some light on the units you mentioned.
Best regards, Osman Levend

Re: Full German Officers Name in Ottoman Army..
I have found in Australian records a chap who claims that his father, Graf Anton von Arco-Valley, served with Liman von Sanders. I cannot find this name on any of the lists given, which is no great surprise, as the fellow was a pathological liar, and he claimed also that his father had been murdered with the Russian Imperial family. All the same: am I doing him an injustice here? Was there an Anton von Arco (with or without "Valley") somewhere in the Dardanelles during World War I?
Re: Hptm Seelig
Hi
I wonder if Wolfgang and other ever made the list ready for publishing online or buying on a CD etc..??
Anyway I am interested in a name from the first list on page 1, Hptm x Seelig.
I have fair information on his service as flyer on the Western front from BOW until early 1918 when he did become commander of the Turkish Flieger Abteilung 14 and later in 1918 he did become Kofl of the 4 Turkish Army.
Anyone knew his first name and/or place of birth..?

Hello Jürgen,Stauffenberg II wrote:If I understand correctly you are reseraching first names. Here is an available list of mine listing some major German recipients of the Iron Crescent. Maybe it is of help finding some first names of officers listed in Dr. Soytürk´s publication. It is showing quite a cream of the officer corps:

Thanks for the list, it is most helpful. You shared that list long time ago I wonder did you update it? Will you also please tell me the source of this information.
In your previous thread you said that you had uploaded pdf-Version of Mr. Soytürk's work. Where did you find it, can you share it?
Best wishes

Hello!
Is somebody able to ID this officer, please? Unfortunately the card is unwritten and unstamped.
It shows an officer from the Gren.Rgt.Nr.5

Hello Tosun!
No, the Gren.Rgt.5 belonged to the 36.Inf.Div. Since 1915 (when the Gallipoli Star came out), the division only was at the western theatre
