According to Cron,Imperial German Army 1914-1918 :
Particularly numerous were the supporting motorised vehicle formations that Germany provided to Turkey during the course of the war.If it was at first a matter of completing the as yet uncompleted railway lines in the Taurus and Amanus Mountains,so later was added the need to supply Army Group F in Palestine. In total there were in Turkey 1 Army Motorised Vehicle Park,4 Motorised Vehicle Parks,1 Medical Motorised Vehicle Park,1 Motorised Vehicle Echelon,15 Army Motorised Vehicle Columns,17 Motorised Vehicle Columns and 1 Motorised Vehicle Section.A service command of German motorised vehicles in Turkey had been set up on 5 November 1916.From 30 January 1918 it was called "Motorised Vehicle Command with the German Military Mission in Constantinople".From 23 July 1917 military supervision was carried out by Stokraft 771,who on 17 September 1918 took the designation "Rekokraft Turkey".Under his command were the Akokrafts of the 6th Turkish Army..the 7th Turkish Army and the 8th Turkish Army who in February 1918 were renamed respectively Akokraft Iraq,Syria and Palestine.

Thats very interesting Peter - thankyou, especially as the Austrian-Hungarian supported the Turks with a large number of motor vehicles too.

Do you have any photos of German or Austrian transport in Palestine?

God Bless

Helen

Thanks Peter, I've just received a booklet on the German organisations for the Middle-East which covers the TOE from Gallipoli onwards and errata made by the staff during the course of the campaigns. Whilst some of the information is speculative is provides information useful to the researcher. Here is the booklet I bought from Caliver in the UK.

"German Armies' Establishments 1914/1918 Volume 4: German Forces in the Middle East" by Dirk Rottgardt.

God Bless

Thanks Helen.

Also should be mentioned are the German Railway units sent to Turkey. The lineage was expanded, improved, the way through the Taurus Mts being such a case.

From Cron:
..into Turkey had been sent 12 Railway Special Detachments,2 Special Drilling Detachments for wells and a Special Fuel Detachment Arabia to procure heating material.
I guess we forget that steam engines needed burnable fuel and water to run.
