Major Erich Serno(1886-1963) of the German Military Mission,renamed General Inspector of the Air Force by 1918,helped organise 17 land based and 4 seaplane squadrons of Ottomans.

Oberleutenant Serno took over this role in 1915.

Lt.Erich Serno (1886-1963) from German 2. Aircraft Company was assigned to German Military Mission in Turkey an October 1914. He was charged with the preparation of a programme to train Turkish Aviation personnel as well as with the task of consultancy for Turkish Higher Command on aviation. He started his mission in Yeşilköy Flight School on 3 February 1915.

Postwar Serno helped to run the Arado company after it was nationalised in 1936

This is the original pic... Note on the pict says "Preparation building a flying school at my army life in the Flying Academy. Lieutenant Muammer. 1916

This man with white costume is a investor from Benz factory... Serno stands his right...

On the photo, the other unknown officer is Izmir Battalion Commander.

intibaat= impression
An impression of my army life at flying school

Also who is Lt. Muammer on that picture?

The upper picture shows Capt Buddecke and the Major Max Schueler von Krieken, Commander of the 5th Aviation Coy in Izmir.

Another visiting German aviator--Oswald Boelcke aboard SMS Goeben 1916.

Boelcke was sent on a tour of the Balkans. He transited Austria to visit Turkey. Upon his return swing, he visited Bulgaria and the Russian Front.
