Tosun,

I notice you mentioned this officer?

"3rd Reserve Cav. AC.= Lt. Gen. Dagıstanlı Mehmet Fazıl Pasha (KIA at Iraq Front at 75 years of age"

Can you confirm what formation he commanded?

Other reports place him with a Reserve Cav Bde with

11th Res Cav Regt - Maj Sabri Bey
5th Res Cav Regt - Maj Ziya Bey
12th Res Cav Regt - Maj Osman Bey

Can you confirm any of his story and his death in Iraq?

Cheers

Lt General (R) Dağıstanlı Mehmet Fazıl Paşa took command of Kerha Group at Irak on April 12nd 1915. Kerha Group was established on Jan 20th 1915 by staff Major Tevfik Bey. After Fazıl Paşa took command Maj. Tevfik Bey became his CoS. The men of the group were all from local tribes. Kerha group took part at Şuaybiye (April 12/14) and 1st Rota Batteles (May 31st)

Fazıl Paşa commaned the Local Tribel Division (Aşiret Tümeni) during Selmanpak (Nov 21/26),Salabiha (Nov 30), and Kutülamara (10/13)
The Aşiret Divison consisted of 1st Aşiret (Tribal) Bridade commanded by Acumi Sadun Paşa, a civilian Libyan loyal to Turks. He also took part during Turkish War of Liberation.
2nd Aşiret Birigade Brigadier Mazhar Paşa (R)

Dağıstanlı Mehmet Fazıl Paşa KIA during Sabis Battle while commanding the Aşiret (Tribal Cav.Brigade on March 9th 1916.
Mehmet Fazıl Paşa was Caucasian. but not circassian baut from Dağıstan. For thet reason he wasnamed Dağıstanlı (from Dağıstan)

I CAN NOT ADD PİCTURES

Tosun,

Thanks again you pose an interesting problem

You give this source

source: Staff Col.(R) assistant Prof. Dr. İsmet Görgülü " On Yıllık Harbin Kadrosu 1912-1922" (Personel of the Ten Years Long War 1912-1922)

p.101
At Caucasus Front there was an Independent Cav. AC with 4 cav.divisions. The men of the AC was local tribesmen with low education and training. The Independent Cav. AC was abolished on Nov. 20th 1914. The 3rd Independent Cav. Div. was not abolished.

p. 104
- Independent Cav. AC: commanded by Lt.Gen.Dağıstanlı Mehmet Fazıl Pasha [ He was over 70 when he was recruited. He was a good soldier and a brave man. He fought againts Russians at the order of Sheik Şamil, (a great Caucasian leader and hero) During the Turco-Russian war of 1877-78 he fought in the arm of Gazi Ahmet Muhtar Pasha. KIA at Iraq front.]
-- CoS: Maj.Aziz Samih (Col.İlter)

and

Tank Staff Col. Prof. Dr. Ismet Gorgulu "On Yıllık Harbin Kadrosu" (Personal of Ten Years Long War 1912-22)

p.105

Battles along Hudut (Border), Köprüköy- River Azap on Nov. 1-Dec. 19th 1914.
At the order of 3rd Army:

3rd Reserve Cav. AC.= Lt. Gen. Dagıstanlı Mehmet Fazıl Pasha (KIA at Iraq Front at 75 years of age)
COS= Maj. Aziz Samih (Col. Ilter)

Was it the Inderpendant Cav or 3rd Res Cav?

Was this before he commanded Kerha Group with Maj Tevfik Bey in April 1915?

I take it this was in Iraq fighting the British? after he fought the Russians on the Caucasus Front in 1914/15

What was the Kerha Group was it a Division group that was renamed Asiret Tümeni ?

The Asiret Tümeni Local Tribel Division during Selmanpak (Nov 21/26),Salabiha (Nov 30), and Kutülamara (10/13)

sorry mate where were this battles, against the Russians or British?

You mention Dağıstanlı Mehmet Fazıl Paşa KIA during Sabis Battle while commanding the Aşiret (Tribal Cav.Brigade on March 9th 1916

Does that mean he was commanding one of his Bdes and not Acumi Sadun Pasha or Mazhar Pasha

where was this battle against?

Sorry Tosun but I am trying to place these units into some order of battle as I have not seen these formations before.

I am thinking they maybe named some thing else but can not place them as yet.

As always you are a great source.

Cheers

S.B
