Losses of Turkish mechant/sailing vessels, 1911-1912
Hello
I’m looking for infos about the losses (sunk or taken as war prizes) of the Turkish steam and sailing merchant ships and fishing vessels during the Italian-Turkish war, 1911-1912, in Mediterranean, Aegean and Red Sea.
I made an incomplete list taken from Italian sources (M. Gabriele, “La Marina nella guerra italo-turca” , 1998, US-MM; M. Gabriele “La marina italiana nel Mar Rosso durante il conflitto italo-turco” Bollettino d’archivio, June 1997, US-MM), from an american one (“The history of the Italian-Turkish war”, Annapolis, 1913) and from an website http://warsailors.com/forum/read.php?1, ... #msg-50184 but it should be interesting to have complete data from Turkish sources, if possible.
In the following the list I’ve made
29/09/1911 Steamer SABAH, seized by destroyer ALPINO, S. Giovanni di Medua (Albania)
Oct. 1911: steamers ADANA and SAADET scuttled as blockships at Yenikale (Gulf of Izmir).
5/10/1911 Steamer DERNA (3570 tsl), scuttled, Tripoli, , salvaged, BENGASI in the Regia Marina
5/10/1911 Schooner ZARUG, seized by destroyer GARIBALDINO, off Zeira,
5/11/1911: armed steamer HALIC damaged by gunfire from cruiser PUGLIA off Aqaba; the wreck is scuttled by her crew.
16/12/1911: steamer KAYSERI seized by PUGLIA while on passage Suez to Kunfida with bunker coal
2/2/1912 Dhow EL MUFARIB, seized by destroyer ARTIGLIERE, Bab el Mandeb Straits, Red Sea
20/4/1912: Sultan's yacht SULTANIYE and transport IZMIR scuttled as blockship at Yenikale
29/4/1912: steamer TEXAS sinks on a turkish mine off Yenikale
1/5/1912: naval tug MENDERES sinks on a turkish mine off Akbas.
24/5/1912: steamer NEVADA sinks on a turkish mine while entering Izmir harbour
6/6/1912 Dhow AIDERUSSI, seized by cruiser PUGLIA, Red Sea
7/6/1912 Dhow NASSAR, seized by cruiser PUGLIA, Red Sea
17/6/1912 Dhow FAITH EL KHAIR, seized by cruiser CAPRERA, Cape Guleifaka, Red Sea
In “Le torpediniere italiane”, 1974, US-MM, page 171, it is mentioned the seizing of a Turkish steamer by the high-sea torpedo-boat SCORPIONE, in Aegean Sea, in an undefined date. On the same page, it is mentioned the seizing of an egyptian sailing vessel by torpedo-boot SIRIO, off Bardia (photograph at page 173).
Thanks in advance
Fabrizio

The Book "The Ottoman Steam Navy 1828-1923" should provide you with all the ottoman ship losses during this period.

Thank you, James, for your suggestion

Hello,
at last, I've got a copy of "The Ottoman Steam Navy 1828-1923" but, as the title suggests, it does not deal with merchant ships, civil steamers, sailing vessels lost (sunk or seized) during the Italian-Turkish war of 1911-1912.
I wonder whether some of Turkish members of this forum could help me about this topic.
Thanks in advance and best regards
