Hi Tosun,

I am very sorry for my late response to the information you gave me. Thank you very much it was most informative and helpful.

Samih Pasha seems to be a very interesting character that seems to have done a lot in his life. The information you sent me added to my knowledge of him. I was particularly interested in his father’s name and I thought that he may have been exiled a number of times and you have confirmed this - Thank you. In the information you sent you mention that he served as Governor of Erzorum between 1889 and 1892 but I thought he was relieved of his duties in 1890. I found this in http://hansard.millbanksystems.com/comm ... 22/armenia . Do you think this Hansard report is correct or have the British got it wrong?

In my research I also found out that Samih Pasha was appointed by Sultan Abdul Hamid as his representative in the handing over of Cyprus to the British in 1878. I found this in http://www.ebooksread.com/authors-eng/g ... -swa.shtml. He also held the position of Senator in the first Ottoman Parliament in 1877. I have also found references to what I think maybe a biography of Samih Pasha called ‘Erzurum Esk! Valtlertnden Hasan Samih Pasa’nin biyograftstneait onemlt btr vestka’ but I cannot find a copy of it. Have you heard about this book? Do you know if it is still available and where I can possibly buy a copy?

Again thank you very much for your help.

Best regards,

Hi Tosun,

Thank you for the information.

I've had look at the document written by Sadi Cogenli but it's written in Turkish. Do you have or know where I can get a version which has been translated into English.

Thank you for your help.

Hi Tosun,

I have been researching the name of Hacı Mehmet Kamil Paşa who you said was Samih Pasha's father. I found a person called Kıbrıslı Mehmet Kâmil Pasha but he was born about three years after Samih Pasha so I don't think he is Samih Pasha's father and I cannot seem to find any mention of his father anywhere. Can you please let me know where I can find out about Samih Pasha's father - Hacı Mehmet Kamil Pasha. Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated - Thank you.

Best regards,
