General Bartatov's Invasion of Persia Dec 1915

Mates,

With the great help of Max, Art and Alkan we have filled out the Russian Army on the Caucus Front. But other side show took part with a mixed force in Dec 1915.

Gen Bartatov took a mixed force for the Invasion of Persia, it landed Bander and advance by three routes to Kermanshah, Homadan and Kum (Qom) Dec 1915

reported from souces as;

Caucasus Cav Div + Cossack Div + two cossack Regts + 28 guns

so who were these units?

1/ Caucasus Cav Div

Caucasian cavalry division

Max wrote about the Caucasian cavalry division under General Prince Beloselskiy-Belozerskiy;

"In October, 1915 it (actually in Persia since January, 1916) is included in Baratov's detachment for a campaign in Persia"

2/ Cossack Div

possibly his own (Bartatov's) 1st Caucasus Cossack Div

3/ that leaves the two cossack Regts + 28 guns (possibly from the two Cav Divs)

Can any of this force be confirmed?

Cheers

Max,

Thank you for the hard work, I never believe I would find what this force was made up from. You have filled so many gaps here.

By the way: consider, what not all regiments of a Kuban Combined division were sent at once to Persia - three rgts at most.

Max,

Yes mate the source I have shows it as two Regts who along with Caucasian cavalry division under General Prince Beloselskiy-Belozerskiy and (Baratov's) 1st Caucasus Cossack Div were part of the invasion force.

I did wonder who commanded these formations?

1st Caucasus Cossack Div (who commanded as Baratov commanded the whole force?)
Combined Kuban Cossack Division
Caucasian Frontier Infantry Bde
9th Turkestan Rifle bde
Persian Cossack bde

Caucasian Frontier Infantry Div 6-17
1st Caucasus Cossack Div
3rd Kuban Cossack Div
4th Kuban cossack Div 3-17
Kuban Separate Cossack bde

Cheers

There is a book "Caucasian Battlefields 1827-1923" that deals with this operation
