Looking for correct lyrics - Hakenkreuz am Stahlhelm

Postby Ivanwss on 25 Nov 2006 14:18

Does anyone have correct lyrics for
the well-known recording of "Hakenkreuz am Stahlhelm"?
They are different than these http://ingeb.org/Lieder/kameradr.html
or these viewtopic.php?t=70741&start=0&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=

I'm sure most of you have this recording.
Please don't post any lyrics if you haven't listened to it.

Here's what I have so far:

Musik: Theodore F. Morse, “Blue Bell”, 1904
Text: Hermann Blume

Kam’rad, reich mir die Hände,
___ ___ zusammen steh'n,

wir ___ ___ Kam'raden,

Ivan,

I'll have a go at it. It helps to get some of the lower frequencies out of the song and boost the midrange when listening but even then is very difficult. Maybe someone else who speaks native German can figure it out based on contextual usage.

Is your grandfather Hermann Blume - born on 04.06.1891 in Biegen / died on 10.05.1967 in Großbottwar?

Btw, Blume only arranged music for this song, lyrics were written by Erich Teßmer.

You can find mp3 easily on internet.

Yes, my fault, he only arranges the music. and yes, this is my grandfather. He died by an car accident when he was on the way home by bike.

I know the internet is a great source for mp3s but recordings of my grandfather's music is very rare. I only found yet "Tannenberg-Marsch", "Lockstedter Jägermarsch" and "Stahlhelm Bundesmarsch" and the last two are in very low quality.

greetings,
Georg

Actually, it's mine (it's a bit old thread, when I had only some partial info on the song).

Do you have a photo of your grandfather?

Yes, I can show you two photos. One from 1934 and the other from 1947 after his two years in russian imprisonment.

Hello,

Well, your grandfather did a very nice job! Thanks for the pictures. Captivity in USSR must have been a harsh time... Anyway, I have the song in good quality and I sent it to you.

thank you very much. this is an special recording, because he only arranges the music usually. I have some records printed on vinyl, but this one is missing.

and to ivanwss:
maybe you know it right now, but the song "hakenkreuz am stahlhelm" is different from "stahlhelm bundesmarsch", it isn't the same work, but they are both composed by my grandfather.

and maybe, i'm not sure, there is another fault. I have some notes about the complete works of my grandfather because I still get royalties. My grandfather composed the song and the text comes from Erich Tessmer.

The song "Blue Bell" has a german version too, but it differs very much from my grandfather's song.

Here is the text from german version of "blue bell"

Deutschland du Land der Treue
Oh du mein Heimatland
Dir schwören wir aufs neue
Treue mit Herz und Hand.
Strahlend erstehest du wieder
Herrlich nach banger Nacht
Jubelt ihr deutschen Brüder
Deutschland ist neu erwacht!

Refrain:
Hakenkreuzfahnen,
Schwarz, weiß und rot
Grüßen und mahnen,
Seid getreu bis zum Tod!
Deutsche, seid Brüder,
Reicht euch die Hand!
Heil uns'rem Führer,
Heil dem Vaterland!

Heil dir du deutsche Jugend,
Erben der neuen Zeit,
Fügt euch zur Männertugend,
Stellt euch zum Kampf bereit,
Folget dem Ruf der Alten,
Siegreich und kampferprobt,
Dann bleibt das Reich erhalten,
Auch wenn der Sturmwind tobt!
Refrain:

Heil euch ihr deutschen Frauen,
Heil euch mit Herz und Hand,
Kämpfer voll Gottvertrauen
Gabt ihr dem Vaterland,
Gläubige, stolze, freie,
Frauen sind unser Glück,
Gebt uns die Waffenweihe,
Dann gibt es kein Zurück!
Refrain:

Folge dem Führer,
Reiche die Hand!
Heil Adolf Hitler,
Heil dem Vaterland!

Germany you country of fidelity
Oh you my homeland
Renewed we swear to you
Fidelity with heart and hand.
Radiantly you'll rise again,
Shining, after an anxious night
Rejoice you German brothers
Germany has awoken!

Refrain:
Swastika-flags,
Black, white and red
Greet and remind us,
Be faithful till death!
Germans, be brothers,
Join hands!
Save our leader,
Save the fatherland!

Hail you German youth,
Heirs to the new time,
Become virtuous men,
Be prepared to fight,
Follow the guidance of the ancestors,
Victorious and battle-tested,
Then, the realm is maintained,
Even if the storm rages!
Refrain:

Hail you German women,
Well to you with heart and hand,
Fighters with faith in God
You gave the fatherland.
Faithful, proud, free,
Women are our fortune,
Bless us as soldiers,
Then, there is no going back!
Refrain:

Follow the leader,
Reach out your hand!
Save Adolf Hitler,
Save the fatherland!

Now I work on the text to give you a complete version of the song. But also for me as a native german speaker, it's difficult to understand some passages.

we will see...

Hello, Georg

Thanks for photos, quite interesting.
Do you know if your grandfather held only the Allgemeine-SS rank, or Waffen-SS as well?
He really was a "big-shot"; his works were recorded by almost all bands in III Reich,
including Musikkorps der LSSAH, Reichsmusikzug des RAD, various Stahlhelm bands of course
(he was also an Ehrenamtlicher Bundesmusikreferent des Stahlhelms), Carl Woitschach's orchestra and many others.
He was arranger - and composer as well.
Dave here ("behemoth") has a Stahlhelm-record with 2 of his interesting works
- "Märkische Heide" & "Haltet aus im Sturmgebraus (O, Deutschland hoch in Ehren)".
His song "Kamerad Horst Wessel" (lyrics by Käthe Sommer) won the first Seldte's prize.
He composed also a couple of marches dedicated to Hitler.

Cheers,
Ivan
