Sieg Heil - Viktoria!

#91

Post by stg44 » 13 Oct 2009, 02:52

I'm interested in purchasing this particular marching song on CD but before I do I'd prefer to know what would be a recommended disc as I know some have had bad audio quality. If the CD also includes other popular songs such as the Horst Wessel Lied or Königgrätzer that would be a bonus, but the main one I'm after is the Waffen SS march. I would prefer the song to have instrumental accompaniment, not solely choral.

It's NOT a Waffen-SS march. It's just one of many patriotic war-songs created by Herms Niel.

See my scan here http://forum.axishistory.com/viewtopic. ... 0#p1128767

The disinformation that it's a Waffen-SS song was launched by a pirate "company" called RMK on their CD named "Sieg Heil Viktoria", where they made up that the performer is LSSAH. As you can see, it's actually Niel's band. The well-known sound file which can be found online comes from that pirate CD (its sound quality is very bad and the speed is way too fast).

Thanks for clearing up for me that it was not a SS march; it's easy to see how incorrect information can so easily be spread.

The CD "Marschlieder/Soldatenlieder" Folge 3 contains the song you are looking for under the title "Ade, mein liebes Schätzelein".

Quality is quite good.

Es blüht ein Röselein

#96

Post by Alfered Hohmann » 20 Aug 2010, 12:25

I need lyrics of Es blüht ein Röselein.

Edit: I forgot to say that they sang "Es blüht ein Röselein" but it has been wrongly written "Es blüht ein Blümelein".

A brief note: the title "Es blüht ein Blümelein" was actually printed on the original "Grammophon" label. But that is an error.

The "Grammophon" catalog, on the other hand, lists the correct title - "Es blüht ein Röselein".

Typos on labels were quite common back then.

Oberschlesierlied

Post by InfS » 14 Sep 2010, 10:58

This is really interesting!

I was surprised to see the "Oberschlesierlied" in the list of Herms Niel songs. Could somebody give me some source information about that? I've been looking for time of creation and composer of this song, and had found a Franz Thill, and the year 1921, so 1942 and Herms Niel is a surprise...

I'd be gratefull for any information about that song.

Hello, InfS

The earliest sources mentioning the "Oberschlesierlied", that I was able to find, are the Musikverlag Wilke & Co. and the Deutsche Grammophon GmbH - according to which it was created in 1942 by Herms Niel (music) and Emil Wieczorek (lyrics). After WWII, the song started appearing in various songbooks, only without the strophes mentioning the Führer, and without its authors credited...

Niel's own recording of the song from 09.05.1942

Some days ago I found for the first time in my 62 years long life in youtube the wonderful songs of Herms Niel! What a composer. I believe one of the greatest which Germany has had. In East Germany he was forbidden. I only knew Erika a little bit. Now I hear every morning some of his songs: Oberschlesierlied, Edelweiß and so on. And I know: the day will be good and my mind too!!! A very great thanks for Herms Niel (and I'm sure he will hear it)!!!

The first two lines are

Es blüht ein Röselein, in meinem Garten
Wohl ganz verborgen, einsam, und versteckt

But I can't find any other lyrics anywhere online. My German isn;t good enough to pick up the lyrics from the available recording.

Thanks very much for sharing!

That photo of Niel was likely taken at the same time as this one:
