From https://www.dwds.de/ [Völkischer Beobachter (Berliner Ausgabe), 15.03.1940]
Heute begeht der Führer des Musikzuges der SA.-Standarte 1 und Musikreferent der SA.-Gruppe Berlin-Brandenburg , SA.-Oberführer Johannes Fuhsel , seinen 60. Geburtstag.

Thanks for all the additions, F.!

And now let's see how some of the people persecuted by the Nazis felt about Fuhsel's band; this is the ending of a letter by Carl Zuckmayer, famous German-Jewish playwright, written to Gottfried Bermann Fischer, German-Jewish publisher, in Switzerland, 17 June 1938 (they both left Germany after the Nazis came to power and moved to Austria, which they were also forced to leave, in 1938, after the Anschluss):

Translation: "My parents are coming next week to celebrate their golden wedding anniversary here, on 30 June, without the Henndorf Band though, but also without the Fuhsel Band. Thank God. Warm greetings to you and Tutti from your Zuck."

(The Henndorf Band was a local band in the place they used to live in, in Austria; they obviously missed it, unlike Fuhsel's Band.)

A few (sarcastic) lines on Fuhsel by Nazi opponents, from The Brown Book of the Hitler Terror and the Burning of the Reichstag (Gollancz, London, 1933), pp. 179-180:

As far as I was able to establish, using various (very limited) sources, Fuhsel was the bandmaster of the following bands:

Musikzug der SA-Gruppe Berlin-Brandenburg, from Feb. 1928 until at least June 1936
* known as Kapelle OSAF-Ost from early 1929 until May 1931 and as Gausturmkapelle Berlin-Brandenburg from its foundation until early 1929; the band changed its name as its group did

Musikzug der SA-Brigade 30 (or Musikzüge, plural), from at least Aug. 1936 until at least Nov. 1937

Musikzug der SA-Standarte 1, from at least Jan. 1938 until at least July 1940

(Note: SA-Standarte 1 belonged to SA-Brigade 30 which belonged to SA-Gruppe Berlin-Brandenburg.)

Any addition or correction is most welcome.

Ivan
