In my humble opinion, the DDR knew what to do with a military march.

Ernst Rembach

#21

Post by Auceps » 29 Dec 2015, 21:12

Ernst Rembach served in Gaumusikzug 13, Zerbst (Condcutor - Obermusikzugführer Löschke), then mandatory training at Berlin-Gatow. Later he served in a Luftwaffenmusikkorps in Schönewald (played tube, his conductor was Musikmeister Herbert Knobel). In 1942 the band was dissolved, so Rembach served in Bergen (not far from Lüneburg), Italy and Africa, where he was taken as a prisoner of war by the Americans. He spent 3 years in Tunisia, Algeria and USA, later was moved to Belgium and England, where he was finally released to Germany at summer of 1947. He also mentions that the example for the Zentrales Orchester der NVA was Musikkorps des Regiments General Göring (of the regiment or already division is a question).

In the same article Rembach also mentions that the former Musikmeister Erich Mietrag was a bandleader (1949 - 1955) of the Symphonieorchester der Kasernierten Volkspolizei, Berlin (1955 it was reorganized to a symphony brass band, later to the Zentrales Orchester der NVA).

Plus one more thing. The bandleader of the Stabsmusikkorps der Volksmarine, Rostock Ludwig Schmidt was, accordning to Rembach, a newphew of the Heeres-Obermusikinspizient Hermann Schmidt!

Karl Bräunig

#23

Post by Auceps » 05 Jan 2016, 18:01

In the Wehrmacht Karl Bräunig was a Stabsmusikmeister at the Kavallerie-Regiment 10, Torgau. Interesting fact about him: on 18th October 1955 Oberstleutnant MD Karl Bräuning was conducting his Orchester der KVP, Leipzig at the Lindenthalerstraße. The reason was simple: in that house lived the former legendary Stabsmusikmeister Karl Giltisch (18.10.1870 - 17.02.1957), who celebrated his 85th birthday at this day, so Bräuning just congratulated the famous bandleader with a small serenade. Later Bräuning had some problems with his staff in Military district Leipzig.

Thanks, Fallersleben! On the 12:15 can also Ernst Rembach be seen, marching in front of the band and playing "Stadion-Marsch" by Otto Wagner (all three, Baumann, Rembach and Wagner are former military musicians of the Luftwaffe).

Here's a screenshot with Ernst Rembach from the film:

Horst Hoffmannbeck

#26

Post by hoffmannbeckp » 29 Feb 2016, 02:51

Greetings all,

I stumbled upon this page while doing a little family research. I am searching for any information or photos of one Horst Hoffmannbeck. I am not sure if he was born Wilhelm Horst Hoffmannbeck or not. He would have been born in Gera Germany between 1910-1920. The person was referred to as Horst in my family data but his fathers name was Wilhelm so that also makes sense. I have one image from a newspaper article. Any other information would be greatly appreciated. Peter Hoffmannbeck
